  1. When I saw him at his home a few years ago it was a treat.
  2. I was on the wait list for a WH turned PK awesome and he wrote me last year advising he would be unable to get to me.
  3. Sorry Ive been away for a bit. I would be willing to go back under the same circumstances (If he knows Im coming and will receive me). Based on my schedule, that could happen 11/22 late morning. The situation there is ...delicate, and not effortless, but Id be willing to try.
  4. It has captured pins and telescoping legs, you can adjust it up to put the gun at eye level while standing (if you are of Merle height). Fitment is amazing too, as well as blending the finish. He told me he did it about ten years ago.
  5. Thanks for the kind words. As an aside, I dont know of any prohibitions in Oregon for this crank fire.
  6. On a mission to assist a few here I had the opportunity to meet Merle today. We had the opportunity to talk guns which seemed to make him happy. I had the opportunity to see a few gems that he allowed me to photograph. In order: 1) Merle showing me his drum greasing tool. 2)Odd little SMG manufactured by Ingram that looked like the product of a STEN and TSMG tryst. 3) Amazing tripod extension and actuator for a semi Browning .30 chambered in 7.62. He said it runs about 500 rpm, but I bet you could do a little better though. Sadly, his repair and fabrication days have passed.
  7. It took some doing but mission accomplished. Ill be shipping Mktbeat and Stampcollectors drums within the hour. I spent a few hours with Merle today which was very interesting on multiple levels. I will start a new thread about my time with him, but must sadly say, he is no longer able to conduct (or complete) the business he once did. As an aside, I did locate drums in boxes shipped possibly for service from: Contour Forming, Newark, OH Block, Northwood, IA Jeff Nickman, Eagle Mountain, UT These items will never be serviced. If you know them, and they contact me, it is possible that I may POSSIBLY be able to assist in their return.
  8. So far its just Stampcollector and mrktbeat with MIA items? Ill PM you my direct contact info. Whoever feels like they are closest (and willing) with Merle to pave the way, and introduce me, and the idea, should reach out to him first and make sure this will be acceptable and I will be received. The late morning of 5/31 and anytime on 6/7 work well for me at this point.
  9. I live about 30 minutes from him. If someone sets it up, I would be willing to go help find drums/parts and ship them. I wont go drop in like a repro man but would offer an hour or two to help get stuff boxed and shipped if he was expecting me.
  10. Of note : you can drive 30 minutes between Bob and Merles.
  11. I know (knew?) Bob Imel of PAWS back in the day. There are a few of his TSMGs about in Oregon. He is best known for his Sterling copies. The gun shop listing this on GB is quite decent and only about 25 minutes from my house.
  12. I had the same issue. My bolt catch/notches had become rounded . New M1/M1A1 bolts are not fun to buy.
  13. My thought was to thread the barrel .578 then step up to the comp/sight thread behind that. Take an aftermarket/Kahr/Repro and cut the comp portion off right in front of the sight then tap or sleeve and tap the comp portion .578. It would look "normal" then you could screw off the comp and screw on the can. I had a 1927 I was going to SBR and do this to, even got a bubba'ed barrel that would be perfect and a repro comp but lost motivation when I realized I have better suppressed PCCs and should save my $/efforts for a '28 and sold the '27. Still got the parts tho, maybe I'll do it someday.
  14. New bolt and sear and she purrs like a kitten. Totally good to go now.
  15. And.... are they hardened all the way through or just case?
  16. Could one put this bolt in a mill and re-cut engagements? I think it would result in a slight reduction in forward bolt travel during firing for the initial trigger activation but I seems like there is plenty of room to let the bolt run forward and strip a cartridge.
  17. I may be babying the trigger. Several decades of rifle and pistol shooting may have ruined me! Does anyone have an M1 bolt they want to part with reasonable? PM me.
  18. I have a spare complete trigger frame with new parts in it from an IMI dummy. Hopefully a local buddy will let me use his M1A1 bolt until I can get one ordered. With new sear and good bolt I should be able to discern if it's the barrel but I am suspecting that it may be what Bob said. Cyclic has gotten a lot slower and chattery. She needs a proper M1 barrel anyway.
  19. Started doubling on semi. Then would chatter to a stop when you got off the trigger on full. Now she is her own master. Just a sear? or sear and bolt? Sorry for cell pix. Hope they work out. Engagement surfaces seem rough/burred.
  20. I got the gun with a factory converted 30, a ten round drum, an extra 9 1/2" finned barrel that looks like someone cut it down with a hacksaw and a L drum (imported). The gun is new with no box. I think it's older with a serial #KA40xx In reading about these they seem like a money pit. I was considering SBRing it and threading the shorter barrel for my .45 Octane suppressor, using a dummied comp cut in half and sleeved with the front sight permanently attached and the comp portion hiding 0.578 x 28 threads. I have an M1 on a form 4. I want a '28. On the fence about what to do with it.
