  1. 1994 West Hurley M1 (form 1) Wood and gunsmith work by Dan Block. All new wood (15" LoP) Selector switch added and modified to work as a bolt hold open. 10-1/2" barrel installed The bolt hold open (selector) is the front switch. Shown in the fire position, when rotated forward the bolt will lock open when retracted.
  2. There is another way to adjust the rear for windage on an M1, though it takes modification and effort. You can remove the rear sight and file the holes the screwes go through oval (perpendiculare to the sight plane). The entire sight can then be shifted right or left on reinstallation.
  3. Bear in mind that an OAL of > 26 makes it an SBR in some states (Mi for example). State definitions dont always match federal. In reference to the M1: if you had a receiver made as a pistol, wouldnt it then be ok to add the brace as long as it was never assembled with a stock?
  4. From what I've heard the "kicked around" proposals for legislation fall into the following catagories: A) Reinstate the 94 AWB on new manufacture with no sunset. B ) Make "assault weapons" (assume all semi auto rifles and possibly pistols) subject to the NFA and require registration. C) Both A and B D) Both A and a confiscation on all existing "Assault Weapons". In the case of A, B or C an existing, papered, SBR would not be affected. It would already be in the NFA, and as already manufactured a ban on new manufacture wouldn't be applicable. In the case of D, people with papered NFA items would be among the first to get letters demanding they turn them in, if not agents showing up at their doors. Thankfully its the least likely, falling well behind the other three options and the "nothing happens" option. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it.
  5. Interesting. Would you be interested in making another? If you are interested, PM me and we can discuss specifics and prices.
  6. No real appeal to me. Personally, I think AO would have a bigger market if they marketed thier current Thompson Pistol with a brace, or made one with a brace of the M1 pattern. It would still look odd compared to a standard Thompson, but it would have more appeal than trying to compete with ARs that can be bought / built for a fraction of the price of a Thompson, run reliably, and can be easily fixed / modified if they don't run right or you want something different.
  7. Damn, missed it by 2 months. Is there any other source for semi auto M1 recievers that could be made into a pistol?
  8. Are there any smiths in Michigan that have experience converting Thompsons to SBRs? I'm just starting to look into converting mine, and I'd prefer a smith that I can drive the gun to rather than ship it. On a related note, if it is shipped out of state for the conversion, can it be shipped directly back to me or does it have to go through a local FFL?
