    I assume the oil can would not be in the butt stock compartment by itself, the rattling would be annoying. Was there also some type of applicator, pads, rag or something else that would have been in the compartment as well?

    I came across another reference picture for the UD-42 oil can. This set of pictures is from a French website and show a UD-42 and it's oil can that they previously sold.

    I know this is an old thread, but for what it's worth, I just got this grouping out of France and it was listed as being from a UD-42. An oil bottle for an M1 carbine came with the group as well, but the larger nickel plated bottle is for the UD-42.

    Nicely done. I just picked up the same violin case for mine. What did you do to reinforce the case?
