Bender
I have a few questions. Im going to be redoing my sbrd 27a1 in the near future. I seem to remember reading that it is wise to change out the forward grip mount at the same time as a barrel change on the semi autos. Can anyone explain to me why this is something worth doing? Are the original grips different? Do the horizontal grips look any different on originals? I had a smooth 10.5 barrel installed, but removed it with plans to have a finned barrel installed. deerslayer
You can't change gripmount without taking off the barrel. That's why rebarrel time is also a good time to change the gripmount. Most people change gripmounts so they can use a 1/2 GI grip without routing the wood channel bigger 3/4. Bender
Thanks for the response deerslayer, and that is exactly my question....why is swapping to the 1/2 instead of the 3/4 mount worth it? Does the 1/2 horizontal foregrip have a different appearance than the 3/4 horizontal foregrip? Or is it just to have the ability to use older G.I. wood(with character)? I have no barrel installed on my receiver right now, so Im trying to decide if swapping mounts when I have the barrel installed is worth it to me? I guess I just want to know the allure? deerslayer
Well... It's GI! That's enough allure for most.. GI gripmount and GI grip. A kahr horizontal grip for a 16 inch barrel has the wrong contour for a 10 inch barrel. That would be another reason to want to put on a GI grip to fit the 10 inch barrel. Oldtrooper
In my opinion it's a lot easier to just purchase a new fore end from Deerslayer ... His replacement stock sets are exceptional ... I have his wood on my Thompson and BAR
peter kohler
I had dan change the grip mount on all three of mine. they look more like the originals. i guess its preference but if your doing an sbr for the correct look why not go all the way with it?
