brucea4
Most if not all MP40 magazines I have ever seen have the same stampings on the bottom end, ( M.P. 38u40 ). However, I saw one that reads on the bottom part of the mag body, ( M.P. 41, Patent Schmeisser, with the words engraved in an arrow, Haenel ). Is this magazine rare and what would be it's value? Annihilator
Not that difficult to find, 125 to 150 euros here in Europe
Petroleum 1
I have a MP41 marked mag that doesnt even come close to fitting my MP40 magwell. I have two others where one is very snug but works and the other fits normal. No trouble with any of the normal MP40 mags
TSMGguy
The magazine was supplied for the MP-41, not the MP-40 at all. It has the markings it does because the patent for the Schmeisser double stack, single feed magazine design was held by Haenel, and a royalty was paid on every mag produced. Another royalty was paid on each Vollmer telescoping bolt main spring assembly. Double stack, double feed magazines and the use of large diameter bare mainsprings were ideas that would probably have worked even better, but patents for them were not available, so no royalties could be collected.
brucea4
Very interesting TSMG. All I can say is that it worked in an MP40 I had years ago. It also except for the markings looks exactly like my other MP40 mags except the finish appears nicer. I would assume this particular mag would be valued higher? The mags are identical in construction to MP-40 mags and will interchange. Only the markings differ. MP-41s were commercial contract guns made for police units and the SS, outside of normal Heer procurement channels. Most NOS MP-40 mags made early in the war that I've seen had very nice hot blue finishes, like the guns themselves. The MP-41 mags I've examined were finished in the same way. Anything I could say about the value of the mag would only be opinion. Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay. MP-41 mags are not particularly rare, though I guess the argument could be made that it's all rare since we seldom see great numbers of anything made 70+ years ago anymore. Is this magazine rare and what would be it's value? They actually are rare but as far as price goes they are priced the same as MP40 mags. Most guys that buy these types of mags are actually guys that own an MP40 and use them in their guns for shooting. I buy them for that purpose as well as the quality of finish. I think Haenel made the best quality MP40's as well as the best finsih mags but that is just my opinion. I traded two of my MP40 mags with a fellow board member for two of his MP41 mags. We just did an even swap. I personally would not pay a lot more than a regular MP40 mag. A person that has an MP41 would probably not pay a premium simply because they probably only need one and an original MP41 is not a shooter gun just a collector gun.
