MG1918
An interesting image, although an 08 position the sniper team is alongside. Spotter with binos but the chap behind has ‘camouflaged’ his head dress. Don’t often see period imagery showing the different individual efforts. MG1918
The number of original DP Drill Purpose SKL skeleton MGs are few. The number of original German ones even less! 1 x MG08 and MG08/15.

RoscoeTurner
Still hoping someone has the US details. It would be really interesting to see if there are any inventory/lists of what this team took back to the States. op (42).jpg The individual in your photo is an Australian soldier, not US. https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/52296
MG1918
Sir you are quite right. This chap is actually quite famous for his collecting efforts. My post is clearly misleading. There was an official US team, officer led, who were specifically charged to identify, locate and officially take back to the USA. I don't know much about Springfield Armoury or WWI Govt US organisations but would love to learn more. Especially if the records still exist.ThanksMark

I saw one of those at the old Houston Astro Hall gun show many years ago. That must have been 20 years ago, or so.

MG1918
Here is a nice image of MG sections on the march. Considering people, generally, on average had smaller physiques then, wearing full marching order and carrying MG and ancillaries is no small achievement!
