wwiifirearms
Now that I am ready to start playing with my shooter Pearl m1a1, what spare parts should I have , and where should I buy them? Your experience and input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Wwiifirearms Edited September 3, 2010 by wwiifirearms
RoscoeTurner
I can recommend ordering one of Doug Richardson's pivot plate removal tools. http://thompsonsmg.com/Pivot_plate_tool_instructions__g.htm Very handy item to have around when it comes time to disassemble the lower. darrylta
PK makes a delrin pivot plate tool that is equal to DR's for casual maintenance. The mistake I made when thinking about "spare parts" is that being a collector, parts are collectible as well. I bought (6) IMA's select parts kits thinking that they were "spare parts", as in turned out they were so NOS I decided to not break up the parts kits and ended up buying individual parts at good prices to stock my spare parts box. I also did the same thing with (10) NIW blued BAR mags, I can't bring myself to take them out of the wrappers and ended buying individual mags to shoot with. The M1 is a very sturdy built firearm. I would strip it and look for any rounded, chipped lower internal parts. Bear in mind that the lower internals are the same as the 28's. As far as the upper receiver, I'd inspect the bolt for rounded sear notches, extractor and firing pin wear. If it's set up M1A1 style it should have a fixed firing pin in the bolt face. As far as spare parts I'd have on hand a complete set of NOS springs, NOS extractor, ejector and firing pin if needed. I also replaced my recoil and mag springs with Wolff springs and decided to use one of DR's M1 rubber backed buffer disc. Good Luck & Enjoy, Darryl Edited September 3, 2010 by darrylta
james m
Sarcos in New Jersey(they have a web site) offers spare parts kits for the 28 as well as the M1A1. These are very reasonably priced. Jim
TSMGguy
I've never had anything break on my M1, so I sold off the "spares". These guns were built to a very high standard. Unless you do a lot of shooting indeed, you shouldn't need much.
