STEnEd
New to this forum. Seems like the place to be for Reisings. Already might have an issue I brought up in the "loose stock" thread, but I will wait till I can take it apart next time I visit it while in Form 4 jail to post more. Sorry for those who frequent Uzitalk Reising board for cross posting but here are my thoughts and pics from my first range visit with the Reising. Happy to be here and hope to learn and help out others where I can. ...... Well my Reising Model 50 came in last week and I just went to see it and fill out the Form 4. Now I have 6 months to wait and collect parts. Already have $250 worth from Numrich, and Christie mags, springs, and titanium pin. As part of this exercise I was able to fire 100 rounds. After shooting my M11/9 stock 1200 rpm, and Max 11 650 rpm, I was worried it would be "too fast" at 850 rpm. But now I say no. The ROF would be nice 100 rpm lower but it doesn't feel insane like the M11/9. Next thing I thought it would be handful to control, but it's not. Shoots smooth and easy to hold on target. Next I was worried about the bad rep for reliability. Well I found the 20rd mag it came with would jam it up with less than 5 rds left. But the spring felt light when loading. I had another 20 rounder I bought on gunbroker and it ran 100%. Haven't tried the 30 rounders yet. But very happy so far. Stock is pretty beat but I can refinish that easily so not a biggie for me. One issue I will have to figure out is the action is a little loose in the stock even with the takedown bolt tight. So maybe some bedding will be in order. All in all I am very happy with my purchase, but now have to forget I bought it for a while. Here is a bad cell phone pic from the range. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh101/mustanggt0405/18496cef.jpg
emmagee1917
There are aftermarket 20 rounders out there that people say are trash . Look at the info stamped on the front of the mag. If it has the city and state as the last line , it's H&R. There were some spring kits available to "re-pack" tired mags . If those are unavailable now , you might look at cutting down 30 round M3 grease gun mag springs.I always recommend getting the separate two piece hammer spring guide and reciever cap if your's doesn't have it . It allows the spring to find it's own center during cycling and smooths out the action. Also if the ridgid one piece cap's guide breaks , the guide moves up the spring and gets caught by the coils thereof and pounds the rear and/or insides of the hammer , allows the tail end of the spring to wander accross the cap's face and get caught between the hammer and cap , deforming and chopping the spring , and taking bites out of the cap , which fly up into the hammer and bolt path , scarring them and the reciever till it gets so bad as to cease up.I don't want to tell how I know.Chris
STEnEd
Thanks for the advice. It is a late military version so I am 90% sure it has 2 peice bumper assembly. But I did buy another set just in case and to have as a spare. The 20rd mag that was jamming was original. Probably needs a new spring as you suggested and I was thinking. Haven't seen any direct replacements so I will look for a suitable replacement. My current concern is the stock to receiver slop, but whatever it was did not affect function. dalbert
STEnEd, Congratulations on your new purchase, and welcome to the Reising board! You'll find that the Christie 30-round magazines work well. The Reising is very controllable and accurate, and I like the cyclic rate. Yours appears to have a number stamped on the stock. Is it a PD marking? David Albertdalbert@sturmgewehr.com
STEnEd
Not sure of the history of the gun. The stock is marked 214 which has nothing to do with the serial number. So it's either a rack number or a stock off another gun. Stock needs a refinish because someone wrapped something around it with tape so it pulled off the finish in spot. STEnEd
Well I must say I do have a good Class 3 dealer. He checked the lug for me and says it solid. So now I am less worried about it. He even sent a pic. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh101/mustanggt0405/92bcb61e.jpg Now to find a way to pass the time for approval. Already read Frank's book twice. Any other recommended reading?
dalbert
STEnEd, If you've read Frank's original book on the Reising, you will be glad to know that his later book, "United States Submachine Guns" has additional Reising content. If you don't have it, you should get it. It's still available on his website, Machinegunbooks.com. STEnEd
Stamp came back. Woohoo!!! I don know how I missed it the first time but in addition to the number stamped into the stock, it also has a sticker near the heal marked 27. Rack number I assume. I need to do a FOIA on it, to get some additional history. Happy I say it appears to be military accepted. Barrel marked M 2, and it is peened at the top of the reciever. jhm
STEnED, Glad your wait is over. I hope you enjoy your's as much as I have enjoyed mine. As you shoot it you will get better and better at staying on target. It is allsome fire power, easy to cotrol, light, and 30rd. mags. Fun to just take out and blast when you get her running like a sewing machine. I've had my first one for almost 2yrs. now. I got some manicans (sp?) from a clothing store that was going out of business and they are a hoot to shoot at. You really can't belive how many rounds you can put in them from 25yds away. I'm not weird or nothing I don't take them to the range that I am a member of. I shoot them at a buddy's private range. Some people may think it may be a bit strang. But we keep it in context. I shoot paper and bowling pins most of the time! Anyway, just wanted to say hello and "Rock on brother" Looks like you got a nice one......enjoy jhm
