Yes, they aspire to know the exact address where your guns are at if they

would ever desire to confiscate them.

They are correct , only needed by law if you move out of state. Sending them an update , however , would be a good idea. I sent them an update when I put my Reising M50 into M55 configuration ( bbl length and OA length changes ) . TWO years later I recieved a thank you note and notification that thier records had been amended . Again , no requirement , but it does reduce the garbage in / garbage out cycle , and if they HAD to get ahold of me , I'd want them to be able to ASAP so it could be taken care of.

One time I bought a M9A1 bazooka that went from an estate in NJ ( where it had been "grandfathered " decades ago to the owner , but now could not be owned by his heirs in NJ ) . It went to Gun Parts , who advertised it but then could not transfer it because they were in NJ too . I talked to them five minutes after they sold it to Long Mountain , so I called them and snagged it. It went then to my dealer here where we found that the model was wrong ( M9 rather than M9A1 ) , bbl length was wrong , OAL was wrong ( no one could read a tape measure ? ) , caliber was wrong ( 2-1/2 rather than 2.36 ) , and maker was wrong ( US Govt rather than GE ) . I sent in the corrected form 4 paperwork and a photocopy of the incorrect form 3 by dealer recieved with all the errors circled and a letter explaining what was wrong , why , and book referances supporting the changes. I recieved a nice letter confiming my corrections , that my paperwork would be processed , and thanking me for spending the time to correct it .

Their intent is they want to know where the guns are being stored and a

means to contact you regarding them if they needed to.

I doubt they would ever approve a transfer if you stated that the guns

would be kept somewhere in your home state.

It may not be requirement, but it's the correct courteous way to approach it,,,,

unless you don't want them to know where your at?

Chris, what is the fine print in the demotivation cat picture?

No, there is no requirement that you notify BATFE of a move within the state. Notification is required only if the move is out of state.

If you ever want to file a FOIA and learn about your weapons prior history your addresses must match. You can use the interstate move form to update the BATFE even for an intastate move and then the ATF FOIA department in Washington DC will reply to your request. They will not otherwise.
