Very nice, is it a live FA or a dewatt?

Both of my BARs are Royal Typewrioter with 53 bbl dates. Both are live.

I kinda wish one was a WW 2 mfg/date, but I got what I got.

Nice. You may want to read this concerning the use of the carry handle.

http://90thidpg.us/Equipment/Articles/BARHandle/index.html

Chris has a number of well written and researched articles on that website.

I didn´t know about the carrying handle being a late war addition. It was on the gun when I bought it. As the BAR came from a collection of an old gentleman that had passed away, I do not know where he got the BAR from but I haven´t found any sure tell tale sign that it saw service in a European army. Without wanting to question the amazing knowledge of some members of this board, I do not agree with the "photographic proof approach" being 100% fool proof! AFAIK there is no picture of an M1 carbine with a Type 3 barrel band in the ETO, still I know at least a dozen such carbines that have been found as battlefield leftovers from the Bulge. We only found one in a barn two months ago.

But I will look into the carrying handle question, I´m interested myself.
