Woohoo! My Form 4 Signed In Under 1 Day!

Recommended Posts

damn my Police Chief is quick. i was worried when i dropped my form 4 off yesterday at 4pm if he would question it, cause i didn't know if he had ever seen a form 4 before. (my old chief had never seen one and needed to be told what it was, but he did sign it.)

so i get a call at 8am this morning from the PD saying my forms had been signed. the PD closes at like 4:30, so he didn't take too long on the forms. it may have helped with my cover letter (i think its a nice letter), and a copy of my C&R license, and mentioning i have a concealed weapons permit (re: i have passed local background checks).

anywho, i got fingerprinted yesterday, and i will pick up the forms and get my pix taken. then the form 4 is off.

I also dropped my forms in the mail when I bought my MG. I sent a good cover letter, explaining a little about myself and the hobby. It seemed to be well received. The Sheriff called me and we spoke for awhile. He sent the signed forms the next day. It's a good alternative, if you just don't want to make an appointment.

I went in to the Chief of Police personally, and I WAS nervous.

He was easy going and more than willing to sign, even when I appeared again in a few days with another set. (the 1st set was down loaded from the net and was obsolete) I figured I would rather face him again than to have them kicked back.

For the finger printing the city has a digital print scanner, pretty neat, it printed the cards out of a laser printer.

I did my 2" x 2" photos on the computer and printed them on glossy photo stock glued them to the ATF application and off they went.

From there it was the waiting game!

I live in Memphis, TN.

Here, we don't leave the paperwork with them. They just do a background check while you wait (usually about 15 minutes.) Then they sign the forms, type up a letter for the ATF and your good to go!

I later found out that TN has "CLEO must sign law." This means that the CLEO must sign your forms and write the equired letter to the ATF for an NFA trnsfer. The only reason he (she) can refuse is if there is a legitamite reason (a warrent http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif , your insane http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif , criminal history http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif , etc. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif )

I hope other states have laws like this. It would make our life nicer!

OK Z3,

Isn't it bad enough that you smoked me in the time wait! One month for a form 4 to clear! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif That's unethicaly fast!

My C3 wrote the wrong s/n on my form 4, so I'm in for a long wait (probably.) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif

Besides, they didn't exactly lie. I like to call it "creative truth." http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif

Where can you find the law written about the Cleo must sign in TN? Could someone give me a link. I looked for TN State law, but wasn't successful.
