Machinegun Ownership Is So Misunderstood
nfafan replied to Sgt's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I'm now perfectly happy with John Q Public being as bone stoopid about NFA as they are. In the early 80's we wanted them to "know us, to understand us, to gather around Knob Creek and sing coumbaya with us" in the hope that greater understanding of NFA as a legitimate sport would keep it safe from further restrictions. Didn't work. But it did increase the number of customers for the small pool of xferables, which pushed prices of even the "hide-the-kids-itsa-Westy" guns beyond many of our fading savings for such extravagances. MACs went from $300.00 guns to $3K guns, MP5s from $5K to $15K. -
I've have a Klinton era pre-Kahr A-O 1927 and after the EZ-Pull upgrade, its been a hoot to shoot. Kahr GAVE me one of their current heat treated bolts to replace the original 10-yr old crap A-O bolt that failed on me, so I have NO complaints with their cust service. They didn't have to do that. In my book they are certainly better than SIG or Remington. I don't have the incredibly long coin to drop on an NFA TSMG - nor would I want to anymore, given the economy we will be facing for some time to come - so for me this semi is as good as it gets. Hundred rounds or so of .45ACP a month keeps the sanity while I shoot the other guns.

Any ideas as to a value I could put on this shooter Maxim MG08/15? Charlie Erb built this gun up for me from about a 96% matching parts set on a re-manned sideplate. Runs like a top, from chuk-chuk-chuk to near MG34 speed based on 8mm quality and fusee setting. Has original bipod, booster, flashider, steam cap, filler cap, 2 100rd and 1 200rd repro cloth belts. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y260/nfafan/MG0815/ Was hoping to trade for something different in my home state of PA but maybe an out-right sale is the smarter thing to do. Thanks! Steve in PGH

Any Source For "blued, Commercial" Mag Release?
nfafan replied to nfafan's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
No, my W-H/A-O catch is parkerized. But - the safety is blued. Speaking of which; next up will be swapping out the "rod" safety for the old-look tab safety, and the giant cheese grater actuator handle for the acorn-knob actuater handle. -
Cocking Force: Kahr Vs. Original Full Auto

I just cant explain why, but the sensation of firing the MAC-10 in semi (for apples/apples with the 1927) is that the MAC just doesn't "thump" the shoulder as hard as the 1927. Maybe its the full mass of the bolt riding forward that causes some reflex that lessens the feel somewhat - as opposed to the "sudden shock" of a closed-bolt 1927 going off. IIRC, the Reising M50 was a closed bolt, correct? I actually fired a Reising before I ever fired a 1928 or my own 1927. I was stunned at the "pounding" - again, as opposd to what I was used to with the MAC-10/45. I was expecting almost zero "feel" given the heft and size of the M50. Also, the MP5 was simply "ok"; didn't cause my blood to race just because it was an HK nor to get envious of never owning one. I thought the little SWD M11/9 and Uzi were more fun, and from that experience - I'd definately take an Uzi anyday over an MP5. -

My 1927A1 with EZ Pulls needs a tad more than a pinky to charge, and it will still pierce an occasional primer. Still - tons better than stock and now makes me consider moving to an "acorn" charging handle. Also; I noticed from my own semi 1927, and NFA 1928 and Reising M50s that I've fired; that these guns - despite their heft - seem to have more felt recoil than does my smallish MAC M-10/45. Maybe my little buzzgun is so fast that recoil is lessened(?). I noticed a similar strangeness in a shoot-off between the Uzi, SWD M11/9 "MAC", and the omigoditsa MP5. The speedy M11/9 was the most comfortable of the 3 and - seemed the most fun, followed by the Uzi. The MP5 was kinda, meh. Maybe it is that API firing phenom that was creating that impression... -
Bdm's 22 Conversion Kit - What Is It?
nfafan posted a topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Did not want to tack this on to the multi-page .22 conversion thread going on already. Seen this and was wondering what it is about: http://blackdogmachinellc.net/thompson-kit...mpson-mags.aspx With this verbage: THOMPSON KIT + 2 MAGS. FITS THOMPSON SAVAGE 1928A1, WH-M1, 1928 TSMG, M1A1, 1927 A1C DELUX, 1975 WEST HURLEY, 1921AC, 1921 A. In my mind, a 1927A1C Delux is the SEMI fake TSMG. That is why I am not sure if this is the same .22 kit everyone has been discussing here. So - does anyone know if this kit is meant to be able to work with the A-O and Kahr semi-auto 1927A guns? Thanks! -
here is one of several sites that might be of help... http://www.modelguncollector.co.uk/index_wwII.html FWIW in modern toy TSMGs, the Tokyo-Marui M1 TSMG is ABS-perfection and it shoots 6mm airsoft BBs, the CHICOM T-Marui clones being sold in Dunham's are VERY similar - and not bad - for about 1/3rd less. With careful paint and weathering they would make nice wallhangers and don't weigh a ton. The new CHICOM "1928" you can find in Dunham's is nothing more than their M1 clone with drum and a hokey 1928 upper.

Gun Show Find: West Hurley Light Weight 1927a1c
nfafan replied to billie32's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Wow, great find! That's the model I have, bought it new in 96 or thereabouts for a lot more than you paid. IIRC, their 1927A3 .22's and 1927A5 pistols are also based on the A1C. AFAIK, the upper and lowers are machined from blocks of aluminum. I'm sure others will chime in on how they should be steel and all, but in a semi - I think they will still outlast most of us. -
On behalf of all, thanks for that offer, someone may jump on it. Me; I need one that is purpose-built for the A-O/Kahr semi-auto 1927. I am CERTAIN that there are others just like me that would jump on a working .22LR conversion for their semi 1927. Entrepreneurs out there; there's some money to be made here. Maybe not Trump Tower money, but slow/steady money a la E-Z-Pull spring sets for the 1927's. (I kow that is ALWAYS the FIRST thing I recommend to a potential 1927 owner! Along with stock in .45ACP ammo companies.)

Sold: Mp40 - Tube Gun Package
nfafan replied to P.W.Browning's topic in The MP38-40 - 43/44 Message Board
If you don't mind me asking - how much did it sell for? Reason I ask is that I have a side-plate MG08/15 that I'm looking to trade straight-up for a subgun in my home state of PA - and an MP38, 40, 41 is on my short list. Thanks! -
