  1. I got a Philly Ordnance receiver a year and a half ago and I had Bob install my parts kit on it too. I got his "lightening" option which cut away a little more metal to make my display gun close to the actual weight of a real working M1 Thompson. I have no experience with a Richardson rifle, but with so much more of the inside cut out, wouldn't that make a display rifle weight a lot less than a real working rifle?
  2. Thought this article was interesting and worth posting... SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Police in California were investigating Saturday after a major cache of weapons was found in a Sacramento home. The arsenal included an assault rifle, multiple handguns and shotguns, a Tommy gun, a rocket launcher, and several hand grenades, as well as ammunition, according to the Los Angeles Times. The weapons were found Wednesday, police said. Some of them were hidden behind a false wall inside the house. Sacramento's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit was called to the scene to ensure safety as police seized the guns. The name of the homeowner has not yet been released Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/28/rocket-launcher-tommy-gun-among-weapons-seized-from-california-home/#ixzz1vosq4gVF
  3. I was watching that WW2 in color show that's always on the Military channel. They were talking about lend lease and showed a little clip of somebody packing Thompsons into a crate. Just thought it was interesting to see and thought I'd mention it in case somebody wanted to see it...
  4. Sorry for my lack of Thompon knowledge, but what did you mean when asking if I "forgot to spin in the ejector?"
  5. I've been meaning to post pictures of this for a few months now, but here they are. Back in November I sent my M1 parts kits to Philly Ordnance to get a nice display build. I got every option possible including the lightening cut and the extractor cut. I never held or even seen a Thompson up close and personal before so I wasn't even sure what to expect. I must say I was very impressed with my build and the Thompson in general. When I show it to people I don't even feel right by calling it a "fake" or "dummy" weapon. I just say it's an original WW2 parts kit build on an unfinished upper receiver. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h173/customscop/1101.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h173/customscop/1102.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h173/customscop/1099.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h173/customscop/1100.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h173/customscop/1097.jpg
  6. I just got back my new Philly Ordnance 80% receiver today along with my repaired lower. It looks great. Just need to epoxy the dummy bolt knob on and I'll be all set It really does look great. Can't see how anybody would go on a 5 year wait list for a Doug Richardson receiver...
  7. Does anyone think it would be worth the hassle and cost of removing the black paint on that lower and getting it reblued? I'm thinking it's probably better to just leave it be...
  8. That black paint was also on the barrel and on the receiver stub I have to. Anyone have any idea why it may have been painted black?
  9. My upper and lower were mailed out to Philly Ordnance today. I'll let you know what happens... I'm sure it'll all work out.
  10. Sportman's Guide has the Evansville ammo even cheaper. I just got a can myself and used a coupon code to get another $20 off. A 600 round can for .31 cents with shipping. Not too bad
  11. Thanks. After I tried a few times and realized it just wasn't me I stopped trying. I'll let Bob figure out the issue.
  12. I actually did get a Philly Ordnance receiver. I have no experience with Thompsons so I can't say if it's the upper or my lower parts kit. I now Bob has a very good reputation so maybe it's an issue with my lower? I'm hoping I can send it back to Bob so he can have a look to see what the issue might be. Even when I first start to slide it on it's VERY tight. I'm going to have somebody else take a look at it too, maybe another set of eyes might help but I think there is an issue somewhere, just not sure where...
  13. Even when I first place the upper onto the lower I can see that there is no play at all. It's so tight that even if I was able to get the upper onto the lower there wouldn't be any need for the latch spring and button as there would be no way it would move at all. I don't have another lower to try it on though
  14. Pulling the trigger helps but still can't get the upper to get more than halfway on the lower. And when it's on halfway it's a very tight fit. Anyone else have any thoughts?
