  1. Agreed.... I know I got offended about the reenactor stuff in a previous thread... But I think we have made the point that the self proclaimed reenactors on this site are here for the right reasons... I think we all should try and get along. If you get mad at a post gripe to the forum not the poster. From a lot of what I read, and I am guilty as well, threads often get into pissing matches and away from the real reason we are all here, THOMPSONS! Put the rulers away and stop measuring genitalia... We all love thompsons, some of you may be all original and nothing else. Honestly I am envious, I will one day move to a better state and save the money for an original or sell my first born child. With that said, however, original or new made semi we still love thompsons... That is our common bond and should try and remember that. Let's share knowledge, help each other out as best as we can, and try not to upset or get upset. That's my peace take it or leave it.
  2. I wish I could say I don't do semis.... One day I'll move to a different state and own an original... One day....
  3. The CO of my unit is sellIng one of those that he never fired for like $150, I might pick it up of they are at least decent quality.
  4. If you are going to study military Thompsons it is the book to have. That's what I am learning... I bought several other books first, next paycheck I'll pick it up. Thanks again roscoe.
  5. These are the long cases for semi thompson. But they can be cut down to properly fit the full auto tommy. I didn't realize they were longer... I think these cases are neat, but I'm also looking more for the military cases then the FBI/police... They are pretty cool nonetheless.
  6. Roscoe, thank you very much. I still have not picked up American Thunder II.... I will have to very soon...
  7. Jim C; Okay, I read the section before posting, but admittedly skimmed the shotgun section and jumped to the gear and ammo section due to having my heart set on a model 12. Maybe I should start another thread but we are already going so I have a few questions. First since the 870 had no picture for the style issued in Vietnam, did it have a heat shield and bayonet lug? Second, what was the most common Vietnam era way to carry shells? (I.E.- bandoliers, the shell belts pictured in the section, the shell pouches, etc...) Third, after watching a movie the other night I wonder if any shotgun carrying soldier in Vietnam had a "mare leg" style rear grip on their shotgun? I admittedly have not done much research into Vietnam gear or weapons, or looked for pictures for reference as it is a small part of my hobby compared to WWII. I will start looking around the Internet and maybe the library, but any photos/info anyone might have relatively handy would be great. Thank you for the help do far, and any future help.
  8. The guy on the left I have a pic of.... Roscoe Turner actually posted the pic a few months back in a 101st thread in the Thompson section.... That pic was taken stateside in 1943... So it's a no go, the right pic I have as well but have no details on the where and when or who.... He does not really look airborne though....
  9. You should probably leave the Win M12 as is and use it to re-enact pheasant hunts or trap shoots. You could buy a cheaper Rem 870 or Stevens 77E for VN re-enactments. Jim C I know the 870 was developed in 51, but I didn't think it was used as a trench gun in Vietnam... I dunno about the other shotgun, but I was only aware of two models used the model 12 and the model 1897.... Any info you might have on other models would be great....
  10. The model 12 trench conversion mentioned went for $2,000. It was beautiful and IMHO worth it. The owner of CTG is exploring the idea of doing future conversions with the WWII markings. These will be spectacular. I have Stevens 520 and 620 trench conversions from CTG and they are beautiful. That's not to bad, I'm going to look into them...
  11. Good price looks nice... Another one on gunbroker for 175....
  12. Repro is fine with me... Do you know where to get repro parts? Or just gunbroker?
  13. You may want to go back and review pages 241-243 in American Thunder II. At approximately the 137,000 serial number range Savage changed rear sights on the M1 to the protected ear type. I do not have that book yet, I thought that it was only the m1a1 that had the ears with the fixed battle sights and the m1 only had the sight. I'm still on the learning curve, if some m1s had those protective ears, what were the major changes which made the designate it a new model number? (M1a1) Was that when they eliminated the blish lock to make it cheaper? BTW this is my 100th post!!!!
  14. I do a lot of business with At The Front as a reenactor... His mags and 5-cell pouches are great... He says he got them from a Chicago police department that was liquidating stock. I purchased several mags and pouches from him last year in anticipation of buying a Thompson, the feed great and work with a modified mag catch no prob. I reconmended anything from At The Front. I returned the 2 mags with the most rust for exchange. Got a call from Jeanna with a question. Took the opportunity to inquire where they got the mags. She said they bought 2 crates at a gun show. So it would appear that the Roosskies sold them to the Chicago PD , who in turn sold them at a gun show in Kentucky. I should have been a detective. Jim C Maybe he was just referring to the 5 cell pouches.... He had them for sale with 5 mags so I thought he meant everything. I could be wrong, however, lol still a great deal.
  15. Sorry but I wanted to ask real quick what do you consider pricy? Just wondering if you know how much....
  16. There was a few copies on eBay when I was on there the other day.... FYI
  17. Doug Richardson's book "New Production Semi-Autos" is a good source of info. http://www.1927a1.com/ Modification to use the FA selector as a bolt hold open: http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5767&hl=bolt++hold++back Have fun, Joe Awesome, thank you...
  18. Agreed.... I am taking my new 1927 kahr and building it into a proper 1928.... Anyone know any nitty gritty details that I can't easily find in a book? Like the butt plate has a small tab on the top of the butt stock, etc....
  19. Wow and I thought that Illinois was ridiculous....
  20. Sounds like an interesting site, I might check it out...

  22. But more expensive for the seller. Don is a super nice guy to deal, if you are looking for a particular maker of a lower he will do all he can to send you exactly the one you are looking for. I have known Don for over ten years great and easy to deal with.you won't have a problem with any order.sometimes the things we want might takea little effort to get. money order, check, paypal whatever the case. Then of course you will hear some guy cry... they sold it on me or all gone. next batch the price went up. if you see it, Like it. Buy it!! then s.t.f.u. lifes too short for two bit nickle and dime b.s. and its also too short for me to respond to this post anymore. I mean it was about $15.00 magazines right?wa wa !! Ron /Colt21 I am a grouchy old cuss today.back to the Folger's. Roscoe enjoy the day. Roscoe; I didnt think of it that way. Normally I stay away from the send me a check and only a check people because in this world you just never know. However, it seems like guy is on the up and up and liked. I'll give him a try next time I need some Thompson stuff. Like I said just weary because I've been screwed by that kinda stuff before so I try and stay with pay pal or credit cards because there are ways to get your money back. Anywho thanks for the info. Ron/Colt21A; Folgers and chocolate milk... Lol good combo... I enjoyed your rants, I figured the Chicago cop thing was bogus, but at the same time when I bought mags from at the front they were brand new never issued and 3 were in cosmoline (which is some annoying .....) so even if the background story is made up his stuff is normally quite nice he is just probably near the nadir of the barrel. I agree with the nickle and dime comment as well. The mags were 15 bucks each... I got a steal at 10 bucks each several months ago, I wasn't gonna cry if a few were dented and dinged or one had a bad finish, you get what you pay for and in the world of collecting 15 bucks should instantly say "mint" is a loose term... Lol anyway thank you for your input. That's exactly why I joined the forum. To learn about thompsons and everything associated with them, and to leave all the bull behind. Nemo/WWII502
