  1. Perhaps you would not have used an M1 trigger frame, but you are aware that the 1921Thompson in question would still function and therefore the armourer that used that part kept it working. Perhaps your definition of an armourer is not the same as mine? A maker, supplier, or repairer of weapons or armour. Who wants an apology? D
  2. I have seen the photos on facebook and it appears that the barrel and front sight are the orginal Colt used parts. It would be interesting to see if the bolt is an original one, or a later 28 replacement. Pete Burdain, an armourer would have used any parts available to keep the gun working and by your standard that makes them witless? Perhaps you should stick to the history of the 1921 in question and keep your political views private. The last Colt 1921 for sale in the UK sold for £10,000 a few years back, but it was a live firearm in great condition. D
  3. Hi MK VII Thanks for the extra information on Colt No 880 D
  4. It's nce to know you have Colt Thompson number 935! D
  5. Hi Larry, Thanks for the information on 880, at least I know when they got 880 now. This is the info that used to be on the IWM databse for 936? History Note: Part of the IRA's 1921 purchase of 495 Thompsons, which was the Auto-Ordnance Corporation's first major sale. Inferred from the serial number Physical description Firing pin cut, barrel drilled The question is will the Thompson in the IWM be accepted as Thompson gun number 936 and will the database on this site be updated? I don't know if any of the 3 ex IRA 1921 Thompsons are on display in the museum, but none of them were viewable the last time I went to the museum. I emailed the museum i n 2014 and I was told they were not currently on display, but the museum had plans to do something on the troubles in Ireland. D
  6. Hi Larry, I am doing OK, but most of my Thompson's have been sold, due to the EU bs D
  7. Yes TD you are right 936 is blank, that print is so small to my eyes How about 880? Does Gordon's book have anything on that one because I have not seen it listed at the IWM until now. D
  8. The Imperial War Museum London listing : 383 5/18/21 Amer Rail Exp CO. N.Y. G.G Rourke 2nd Shipment (Old listing) Now the online collections lists these ex IRA 21 Thompson numbers 880 6/7/21 Amer Rail Exp CO. N.Y. G.G Rourke 2nd Shipment http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30029260 This next one is really interesting, as the site claims it is gun number 936 http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30029433 936 is listed in The Ultimate Thompson book "Home to Mother" serial numbers listing on page 716, as an order for Santa Maria Cal Police Dept. What does Gordon's book say about this early 1921? (I made a mistake here, as Thompson number 935 is the Santa Maria gun) This was the old photo of the gun the museum claims is 936. I am inclined to believe the museum are correct about the serial number.
  9. Hello Casper, A coffee would be nice, but I am not coming to Belgium to get it. I think I rest my case on this issue too. D
  10. Casper, First of all you appear to have a lack of respect for fellow board members, as you do not address people properly at all? All I can go on about is AK47's? that is complete nonsense? Do please share this evidence with me and all board members proving that deactivated AK47's were converted and used in terrorist attacks in Europe, as I will be forwarding your remarks and evidence to people who have a vested interest in these issues within the UK. D
  11. Casper, Facts are facts and you are not right about the A47's used in the Paris attacks, please do some research? Converting a blank firer back to live is a lot easier than converting an AK47 that has been deactivated. My 1921 is an old specification deactivation and not live firing.... Your point is? As for taking things personal you called the English pigheaded did you not? If we want out of the EU that is up to the people of England and no other country. D
  12. with all respect Ron, but we don't have to take lessons about gun laws from the UK, their laws have been alot stronger than our own Belgian laws, and this for a much longer time. the new deactivation regulations is what you get when people are buying deact AK47's , rebuild them and use them against civilians. As much as I advocate freedom and liberty, these facts can't simply be ignored. the problem as i see it with the EU: never underestimate stupid people in large numbers. We had a decent thing going before the fall of the iron curtain. The numbers went larger with the wrong countries, If the EU was made out of the western European countries (as it was in the beginning) things could have been great! now about BREXIT, well the Brittisch have always been a bit pigheaded, I do understand them, but I don't think it will help them in the long run, the days of the great Brittish empire have been long gone, with a Brexit, they will get more isolated than they have ever been. Maybe a new order with the UK, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, France and maybe Austria...........wouldn't that be a good thing? Casper, You do not have your facts right at all, as the AK47's used in the Paris attacks on Charlie Hebdo were not deactivated weapons they were in fact blank firing guns from Eastern Europe, these guns were meant for the film industry and you are repeating the same stories told by the scaremongers of the EU. Your comments about England are beneath contempt. D
  13. http://www.worldwidearms.com/new-important-deactivation-news/t10/ All I have left is my 1921 For me the battle is over D
  14. Anyone can sign this petition, even those that reside outside of the EU. Can we please keep posts on subject! Regards, D
  15. Hello All, I am posting this link to a petition against the new proposed EU directive on semi-auto and fully-auto firearms within the EU, as it will effect every person that collects deactivated firearms or uses deactivated firearms for reenacting in a very negative way. https://www.change.org/p/council-of-the-european-union-eu-you-cannot-stop-terrorism-by-restricting-legal-gun-ownership Regards, D
  16. Hi All, This is sad news indeed and I hope someone else takes the event on. The War is Over! Peace in our Time! Yes it’s true – after 33 years, this year’s War and Peace at Folkestone Racecourse will be the last one ever! Having organised War and Peace for 27 of its 33 years with the help of Barbara Shea, Rex Cadman has decided it’s time to call it a day. “Barbara and I have organised War and Peace for 27-years this year and she is ready to retire, so we decided that as we started this journey together, after much thought we would end it together. “We’re very proud to have grown the show from a small club event with about 100 vehicles, to the world’s largest military show, seeing over 4,000 vehicles and 100,000 people. A great many other military vehicle shows have War and Peace as their parentage, having grown out of our event.”
  17. Hi all, I agree the butt could have been added at any point in this 1928A1's history, but if this 28 was a British Lend - Lease gun the front grip should have the British modification on the right or left side. (In this case the left side as it's a late 1928A1 Thompson) Based on British cash and carry and Lend Lease 1928 and 1928A1 Thompson guns that I have viewed In my opinion the sling swivel modification was fitted to the right side of the front pistol grips early in 1940 and moved to the left side later in 1940/1941. I have seen many Lend - Lease British used Thompson guns with no British proof marks. D
  18. Hi TD, If I am not mistaken this is the same gun we looked at a few weeks ago: http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17689 It is an early cash-and-carry Savage Thompson that appears to have been owned by a police department in the USA after the war and was refinished at some point in time. While a careful inspection is in order for any gun that anyone wants to buy, I don't see anything that would make me think this gun has a welded receiver. Please point out the problem(s) with a picture with arrows and an explanation of the issues. I want to learn from this. I am not good at judging the receiver angles from pictures but can state the markings appears deep and sharp - certainly not buffed out. I agree about some of the parts being wrong for this early of a Savage but it probably went through an arsenal rebuild before being imported and sold in the USA. This 28 looks like it would make an excellent shooter and is probably a good candidate to restore to as-issued condition should anyone have the mind. If I was in the market for a Savage 28 shooter, I would look at this one. Hi TD, To my tired eyes the other night I could see some marks near the front of the inside of the receiver and these looked like something. I looked again today and the marks are some lines and pixels. The photo of the inside of the receiver is just way too low resolution to make any kind of judgement. D
  19. Hi Freddy, The butt and plate numbers will not match the Savage Tommy guns serial number and that is normal. Your friend can indeed use a Savage made vertical fore grip on his Tommy gun, but I would also keep the one that came with the gun as it is part of it's history. An original vertical Savage made grip is not easy to find in Europe, but maybe a board member can help you find one. Regards, D
  20. Perhaps my statement was unduly optimistic, but to be fair Bob I do not have your trained eye in these matters and that is why I also said the gun needed to be inspected. There is something not right with the inside of the receiver in photo 8 and even I can see that. I will also add I was only talking about doing a new Du-Lite refinish to the metalwork. I did not see your earlier post about all the other problems with this gun. D
  21. Hi Thompsonlover, This Thompson is a pre - lease lease one with a British war department arrow and Enfield inspection mark and could be a nice gun to own, but you would need to inspect the gun before you even think about buying. I agree with Recon Bob and Uncle Dudley do not buy this gun until you know what is going on with receiver. The early patent numbers are fine. You can fix the finish on this no problem if you want it to look like it did when it was first made. As Freddy stated some parts have been changed, but I believe you should be able to find these parts without problems. Regards, D
  22. Hi Freddy, That is a nice late 1940 Savage 1928 with early patent numbers. The first savage 1928 Thompson guns used Colt 1922 patent dates. You might like this thread : http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17181&hl= There is no need to hide the serial number of your friends gun as it is deactivated, but it's up to your friend to decide if it's OK. The butt could be the original, but you will not know for sure until the butt plate has been removed. if you can strip it down and show some photos of the butt plate and stock (inside of stock at the back and the back of the butt plate) You should see some numbers on both. Regards D
  23. Hi Freddy, In my opinion your friend should get a dummy barrel and bolt made and he should probably use a 1928 butt as an original Colt/Remington made butt will not be cheap. I would not refinish the metal at all. D
  24. Hi Motorcar, The reason I think it's not the original finish is because of the bolt, look at the finish it should look like this if it's an M1 bolt. The bolt could be an M1A1 bolt but it does not have an extra stamp for A1 on the gun. Maybe it's a Russian lend lease one?
