  1. PAWS Police Automatic weapons service. They did a lot of full auto conversions pre 86. Lots of M16 conversions, on Olympic semi auto AR 15 receivers. They also did other conversions and rewelds.
  2. I'm looking at a 21000 range Savage that's in Oklahoma. Thats a coincidence.
  3. Do These early Savage guns carry a premium price? What would a nice one be valued at now?
  4. Would that be a re-weld by PAWS. It has an S serial prefix, but the font and numbers aren't right.
  5. What a find. Looks awesome. I'll get my own Thompson one of theses days.
  6. It's pretty interesting. Looks like it could be a lot of trouble.
  7. Just curious. Could you mount it up with parts in it and call it a dummy gun? Or constructive intent. GBauction 454741741
  8. Yep… Still looking. People sure are holding on to them. Hope I don't go to the Dark Side. I have not shot an M1 / M1A1. Want the look and drum capability of 1928 series.
  9. The gun is priced at $19,975. With a Brigeport L drum, stick mag and canvas case. I have a very high trade value on my AC556KF and accessories. I guess it's how you think of actual cash outlay, what a good deal is. I paid very little for the AC compared to what the trade value is. I could be in the Thompson for under $10K. I know I could try to sell the AC myself. Having $20K cash to buy a Thompson is not the problem. Just doing it is the trick.
  10. This is a matching receiver and frame gun. It's apparent that it had been rusty and then blasted before the park. As the photos show, the patent info is missing and manufacture and address are very light. The model and serial info on the receiver are still pretty good. The frame serial looks like the "NO S-" are missing but serial number itself is still visible. The left rear info is also very light. There is pitting on the receiver and frame. Frame looks the worst, with most of the marks gone. Would this as Thompsons go, be too far to do anything about. I know the information can be engraved back on, but is the condition worth it. Would this be a good candidate for a finned barrel and adjustable sight conversion? What value does it hold. Internally it is said to be excellent.
  11. I'm really not interested in a WH gun. It has to be a 1928A1 variant. A member has told me of a very nice WH gun he knows of. Already has PK work on it. It's a thought. I'm looking for a 40's gun. Not collector grade, but not junk. I'm willing to pay a fair price, but can't go top price. I've gotten photos of an arsenal parked gun. A Savage 1928A1 with matching lower. It has a fair amount of pitting, not deep, but it's there. Has been sand blasted pretty good. All the patent numbers are gone and the rest of the roll mark info is very light. Looks like it was pretty rusty before blasting. With trade I have I could be into it for under $9000 cash. It's not pretty but would be a good shooter. I'll see about posting the pics.
  12. I'm looking at a parked arsenal rework. Prices seem to be going higher every month. Not to say that anything is moving. Seems like Colts and Hurleys are about he only guns listing. I guess there is the A1 REWAT on GB for $26,500. ???
  13. Are there any better places than the usual internet sites to find a decent 1928A1? I check every day on the dealer sites, GB, Sturm, Subguns. Googling just comes up with a lot of old listings. Are there better places to look? Or do they just not come up for sale that often? Not the West Hurley guns that are everywhere. Actual AO and Savage guns. Just a waiting game I guess.
  14. Yes, I've read that barrel thread. I've done a lot of searching and reading on the site. In theory everything should work right. But in practice, it certainly doesn't. My main thought on moving and repining a comp is if it only had to be moved a little. Would it be possible to redrill without the bit trying to follow the old path. I would never try to do something like that myself. I'm a welder in fabrication shop and we have HAAS and Mori, CNC machine centers. But none of us are gunsmiths. I know when operations should be done by professionals. I,m still looking for my 1st. (And only) Thompson. But I am being prepared for owning one. It seems by pricing out individual parts that may actually need to be acquired. A parts kit may not be cost effective, but easier to put together. I've looked on Bob's site and am planning on collecting some parts to get started with.
  15. I've read several posts about changing barrels on 28s. They pretty much say that the chance of an already pinned comp on a parts kit barrel, clocking correctly, are slim. So is it not such a great idea to have a "spare" barrel with a comp on it? Does it work to move and repin a comp? I would never try to do it myself. With the price of kits pretty high. Would it be better to look around and find a NOS barrel that has no comp on it? I know most of the guys that are very knowledgeable on the site, say you most likely will never wear out a barrel. I'm thinking more of changing the look of a smooth barrel to a finned barrel. So with the availability right now of single parts that would be in a kit. Is a kit a good thing to pick up?
  16. It would be great if we could just transfer a serial number to a new receiver. But in the eyes of ATF that would be manufacturing a new machine gun. The gun is in the Denver area. We have friends there so it might drive out to check it out. 8 hour drive. There doesn't seem to be much available in 1928A1s right now, except Westies. Keeping options open but might go look at this gun.
  17. What would be a reasonable offer on a DEWAT 1928A1, AO Brigeport with Savage frame. Reblued. Is said to have a plug in the chamber with a small weld and a small tack weld on barrel to receiver. Owner says "10 minutes with a dremel is all it needs" I know, so He says. This was done in the 50's. Late AO gun. Smooth barrel "L" sight. Owner was asking top dollar but now has asked me to make an offer. I'm sure he will still want quite a bit for it tho. With prices continually rising what is a gun like this worth? I would want to see it in hand before any deal would be made, but it would be a long drive to see it. It is form 5 registered Vince
  18. I talked to the gun shop also today. Savage 1928A1. Very little wear on all internals. And they said $35k minimum firm.
  19. Thanks for all the comments and advise. I had a talk with a very knowledgeable and wise collector last night. The gun is nice but not 100% what I was looking for. And there are what may be some issues. For an only purchase, I think I have to consider what I am really looking for. I hope if any members are interested in the gun, they can make a good deal. Thanks again.
  20. Am making a phone call tomorrow, to get more info and try to arrange to go and see it.
  21. colt21a Charlie is brokering the gun. He has it on his web site. I talked to him In Louisville about the gun. It's really scary thinking about spending That kind of money on a gun. I bought my AC556 in '98 for $1,800. And I would want current market price if I were to sell it.
