  1. Sorry i probably should have said its a deactivated gun, the wood has been done it was covered in some sort of lacquer\varnish so i sanded it down and its been covered with danish oil, metalwork I’ve not touched and im guessing its been back to the states and blasted before parkerising as the Tommy gun logo is fainter than should be yet the finish is perfect all over with just one ding in it under the parkerised finish, its nice to have a m1a1 without big dents in the woodwork though
  2. Managed to pick this up a few months back, it wasn’t cheap but I’ve had a few now and none have been as tidy as this, it’s almost in unissued condition, can only find 2 tiny dents and one scratch in it and a few nocks to the sights but that’s it really, anyway thought I’d post it up it’s my new favourite
  3. Ok definitely not a seller that would have faked it then, he’s also got a m1a1 Thompson for sale with cuts added to the receiver to take a drum mag so not sure where he picks his guns up from
  4. Someone with more money than sense will buy it no doubt, front grip and front sight look off to me and considering an original 1921 Thompson deac sold just 2 years ago for £6k in better original condition I’d say this is massively overpriced, you also have to understand it can’t be imported to the US where it would sell for 3x that listed price and D&B are the last dealers I’d trust here in the uk to have listed something 100% honestly and correctly
  5. Nick, Is an 'anchor' stamp on an M1A1 really worth the extra markup? Mind you, a few years back, I was guilty of paying a 'premium' for a 'Model of 1928' with the New York, N.Y. U.S.A. address on it, and I still don't regret it. 18344 NY address.JPG Have a good holiday weekend Richard You Know what its like, you see something thats slightly different or significant and just have to have it, no doubt in the future another will come up and sell for an even sillyer price, plus you dont ever see an m1a1 with a significant stamping to all the millions of other m1a1s, guess Im a typical gun guy, theres more significant reason to buy it than not buy it
  6. I know its not worth the price tag but it has made me very curious, if I could find authentication on it being real Id seriously consider buying even at that price, however I wouldnt mind betting its just a stamp been put on from something someone bought off eBay and punched into it to try and make a fake buck
  7. Ive never seen one before and cant find anything online about it, would US navy or British navy have done this?
  8. Ive come across a deactivated M1A1 here in the uk with a stamping being said as a naval stamp, just wondered if anyone could confirm if its true or not? Ive attached the image below Cheers
  9. Unfortunately it's deactivated in the uk and in poor shape, not much finish left on the gun and the new eu deactivation process here in the uk really butchers them, I went to look at it today with the intention of buying but when I saw the amount of choice that was there plus the condition of it I wanted something else, the problem I've now got is do I get the low serial number m1 that's been butchered or the Colt 1902 military that I got to have a look at, that's in very good shape with id say 90% of its original finish on it and generally in very good condition? Here's links below, the wife has already said no to both so can only really risk getting one or the other plus The Colt is a little out of my price range that I was looking to spend but manageable https://www.chelmsfordmilitaria.com/index.php?ix=136&iw=251&iz=0&e_cat=1&pv=2157 https://www.chelmsfordmilitaria.com/index.php?ix=136&iw=251&iz=0&e_cat=1&s_e_cat=&pv=2086
  10. Yup the book has indeed finally been ordered off amazon, I'll have to check my pm box 👍🏻
  11. Td I take your word as bible I think you know more than anyone from what I can tell so far about thompsons, I only know what I've found when doing a bit of digging online and seeing what was in the museum so I'm sorry if anything I've said is incorrect which looks like all of it lol, the only reason I thought they were colts was because they looked to have a more blued than blacked or parkerised finish on the receivers and the New York stamped on them which I originally thought only colts had and the cocking handle which looked like a Colt one but have since now found out was wrong as mentioned above about the New York being stamped on early savage guns and the same cocking handle being used on Tommy gun stamped thompsons, i think from what you've said above there is more than enough evidence to prove that this isn't the Thompson Winston Churchill used in the picture of him holding one, I'm still very curious as to where the museum found it and got their information from though, I definitely need to order that book though shall get it on order tomorrow, I really enjoy finding out more and more about these guns
  12. I'll have to get that book ordered Richard I keep forgetting to, looking at every gun in the museum I didn't see a single one with signs of deactivation, the thompsons usually have the barrel cut underneath and I couldn't see this on the Churchill one but they may have deactivated it the same way I've seen done to some really old spec deacs because of what it is, some really old spec deacs I've seen just had the barrels bored out and firing pins removed or welded in place
  13. Oh I didn't know that Richard I thought if the reciever had New York stamped on it that it was a Colt made one, if only I could have seen the other side of the gun I guess it would have helped a lot
