  1. I've got two words for ya's... "AutoCAD" and "CNC" Don't you guys ever watch the Discovery Channel? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif sheesh...
  2. pm sent with a WH lead... Good Luck... DQ edit: Ooops... forgot they're closed on Mondays... ask for Jody!
  3. dang Rich... the kid's a natural. it's a good feeling, isn't it. Congrats!
  4. If I were gonna drop 24 large on a gun, I'd sure as h*ll put 5 bills in a plane ticket and go see it FTF. "Terms are 100% payment up front via cashier's check or money order to start paperwork." I don't think this is unreasonable at all. I wouldn't start a paper chase on a BATFE transfer until I had cash in hand. C'mon Phil. Would you? Really??
  5. You've got a couple of ways to go Rich... If you only have one fitting mag, you could consider getting a second mag catch and modifying that to fit the new mags. You likely won't be able to then use your current mags though, as they will now engage the catch too low. If you're like me and have several mags that currently fit, then disassemble the new mags and use a rat-tail file or a dremel to grind the hole open along the upper edge. Take your time and check your fit often, only removing a little material at a time. Check the fit of one of your current mags that feeds well, and match the amount of tolerance that it has. My WH 27 has a certain amount of vertical "slop" that it runs well with. Remember, fit early, fit often... Good luck DQ
  6. She's reading your posts, huh? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif Congrats man! Uzis and Tommys, what could be better!
  7. $10 mag $1000 gun I don't mind... also, I know I could get another catch, but then the mags I've got would be useless, so...
  8. Hey RoverDave! The mag catch hole needs to be opened up about .10 of an inch at the top. The mil-spec mag catch sits a little lower than it does on the newer West Hurley's and Kahrs... Here's a good link... http://www.notpurfect.com/main/thompson.html http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/hail.gif and hey, thanks for your work on UziTalk... I've learned a ton over there. DQ
  9. ... Just put my order in. Better get while the gettin's good. On a side note... I also received the four "like new" 30 rnd mags I ordered from Tapco at $9.00 ea. They are mil-spec mags also manufactured by Crosby, and will require the usual work on the mag catch hole. They arrived, as advertised, in like-new condition, very light grease/cosmoline and showing only slight "shelf wear". Compared to the price of the surplus 32 rnd mags I've been buying for my uzi, I'm very happy! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  10. Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner Warren Zevon Roland was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun With a Thompson gun for hire, fighting to be done The deal was made in Denmark on a dark and stormy day So he set out for Biafra to join the bloody fray Through sixty-six and seven they fought the Congo war Fingers on their triggers, knee-deep in gore For days and nights they battled the Bantu to their knees They killed to earn their living and to help out the Congolese Roland the Thompson gunner... His comrades fought beside him - Van Owen and the rest But of all the Thompson gunners Roland was the best So the CIA decided they wanted Roland dead That son-of-a-bitch Van Owen blew off Roland's head Roland the headless Thompson gunner (Time, time, time For another peaceful war Norway's bravest son But time stands still for Roland 'Til he evens up the score) They can still see his headless body stalking through the night In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun Roland searched the continent for the man who'd done him in He found him in Mombassa in a barroom drinking gin Roland aimed his Thompson gun - he didn't say a word But he blew Van Owen's body from there to Johannesburg Roland the headless Thompson gunner... The eternal Thompson gunner, still wandering through the night Now it's ten years later but he still keeps up the fight In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland's Thompson gun And bought it Great Song... was listening to it yesterday
  11. Thanks Norm and dalbert... that's Ed Zachary what I was lookin for. And thanks to the rest that posted. I appreciate the info... DQ http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif
  12. Well... Without a stock a standard Uzi, even with the 16" barrel is not 26" and must be SBR'd. BATFE does not count the length of a detachable stock, so to add it on an Uzi, the gun must again be an SBR. An attached folder is measured with the stock extended, and totals greater than 26", so it's a valid carbine. And on post-ban guns (Vectors and AA Receivers) an attached fixed stock typically screws the imported parts count and makes the gun an illegal import. (a touchy subject on Uzis) All that said, I believe you can put an attached fixed stock on a pre-ban IMI "A" or "B", so I wasn't 100% in that post... Sorry for the confusion. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/slap.gif
  13. Thanks gents! Much appreciated info... Dos Quattros (as in 2 Audis http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif )
  14. My "new-to-me" 1927 is a low four digit serial, West Hurley AO, "Standard" model (no Cutts, straight barrel, horizontal foregrip, "L" rear sight). I've been looking for several months, and had not seen one of these on either GunsAmerica, GunBroker, or AuctionArms. A variety of deluxe models, but no standards. Do any of the available books have "Production Run" info from West Hurley? ... or does anyone know of an online resource?? Also, I'd like to update the rear sight to a flip up, possibly an original Lyman. Would I be "putting pearls on a pig", and/or am I better to keep this piece "as-delivered" value wise? As mentioned, the gun has a low serial# (like 13xx) and it appears to have very few rounds through it. Opinions appreciated... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  15. I've gotta get out of New York State... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/banghead.gif Thanks Mike! Hella way to start the day!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  16. First post - thanks for taking time ... Proud new owner of an AO West Hurley Standard (not deluxe) 1927A1!!! Are there any legal issues in converting a fixed stock 1927A1 to use a quick disconnect on the butt stock? I am also an Uzi owner, and converting them from the folder to a fixed stock ist verboten, as is using a detachable fixed stock. My A1 has a 16.5" barrel and it seems to me that even without the butt stock it is still long enough not to be considered an SBR. Appreciate your comments... DQ
