  1. It is an MG3, probably in .308 Win. The G3 ( or HK91 ) is a battle rifle fed by a box magazine of 20rds typically. MG3's take belts or a drum with a belt inside. Pete
  2. Hey guys ! I would like to know if Thompsons were ever adapted to other calibers except for .22, 10mm. I know that there are probably some conversions ( I'm also interested in custom calibers ) that never have caught on on a wider basis. Were there also Thompsons made in .38 Super, 9mm or other ? Thanks in advance................ Pete
  3. I wonder why no one mentioned " Saving Private Ryan " or " Pearl Harbor " . Especially in "Private Ryan " there's a bunch of good scenes showing the use of Thompsons. Pete
  4. I would not mind using the brass catcher for the 1927, but I wonder if the charging handle will interfere with it. A charging handle going forward can make short work of a plastic brass catcher with the force of the recoil springs behind it. I currently got one in use for a HK MP5, but that is an entirely different ballgame. Thanks so far, guys !! Pete
  5. Jim, you got a point there....... but I'm a reloader and I frequent indoor ranges. They collect the spent brass and sell it. IMO they can only have mine if it is dented or dinged so badly that I can't use it. As good old Gen. Patton said : "I'm not paying for the same real estate twice. " Pete
  6. Hey guys ! Does anybody on here know if there are brass catchers for Thompson M1 or M1 A1in existence ? I've seen them for the 1927 / 1928 series, I don't doubt that they'll fit on mine, but the M1 / M1 A1 are side cockers, so the charging handle might interfere with the gun's operation. Any input guys ? Thanks, Pete
  7. Hey Gunutz ! Look at my previous post about " Thompson Semi-Auto Recoil Spring Question" or so....... there you'll find all the information you need ( if you haven't found it already....... ) Pete
  8. I guess that it also would not hurt giving the bolt carrier and the firing pin a going-over with a polishing wheel and some scotch brite. Lighter springs might be a good start, a recoil buffer is good to have as well. I'm very happy the way it worked out. $30 well spent. Thanks Dan ! Pete
  9. On mine, I also polished the bolt carrier and the firing pin. The bolt carrier was blued on mine, and after removing the blueing, I found rough surfaces and toolmarks. Kahr / Auto Ordnance didn't do too good of a job on the internals. Peter
  10. I gave my Thompson M1 a workout today at the range. I went through a bunch of CCI Blazer Brass and a buch of reloads. It works like a charm right now ! I've got 100% reliability with all the ammo fired. Accuracy was never an issue, though I know that Thompsons are no match grade weapons. I'm one happy camper! Pete
  11. Thanks guys ! I'll see if my gunshop has got some Hodgdon Universal Clays in stock. Pete
  12. Hey Dan ! I got my EZ pull set yesterday, installation was a breeze. Now I can't wait to try it out.......... Let's see how it works out. Pete
  13. It seems to me that either no one is into reloading for his Thompson(s), or no one is using the powders I use ( sorry guys, i like Alliant's powders ! ) or everybody is secretive about his "recipe"........ I can live with that........... Pete
  14. AFAIK, the bolt or bolt carrier on both is the same. Dan, how can I get hold of you ? Pete / moonbat60
  15. That's good to know. i may go that route too. Pete / moonbat60
