  1. Follow up - I live in Louisiana. I called the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries on Monday and talked to the Captain in charge of the local unit. According to him, there is no limit on the size of the clip/magazine that can be used in a rifle that is going to be used for deer hunting in Louisiana. He said as long as the rifle was not fully automatic, you could load it up with a 30 round clip if you had one. He also said that a lot of people have the misconception that you can only use a 5 round clip/magazine, but that he doesn't know where that came from because there is no state or federal law to that effect that he is aware of. I thanked him and then called the local federal Wildlife and Fisheries office. I spoke to one of the agents in enforcement and he referred me back to the same Captain I had just spoken to. Basically, what he said was that the deer hunting regulations are set and enforced by the state and that the feds don't get involved in that. He said that if the state did not have a problem with it, that the feds would not have a problem with it. So I guess I don't "need" a five round BM59 magazine after all. I have a factory 10 round magazine and three 20 round factory magazines and will use one of them instead. One more thing while I am on the subject of BM59 magazines. A lot people who have the 10 round magazines have said that they can only get 7, 8, or 9 rounds in them. I can get 9 rounds in the one I have, but that last round is tight. I would not load it with more than 7 or 8 rounds. While I was trying to figure out what I would have to do to modify it to only hold 5 rounds, I did see what the problem is. The front edge of the chrome follower is too long to allow more than 8 or 9 rounds to be placed in the magazine. The problem is not with the spring. The follower bottoms out and you simply can't get any more rounds in the magazine "as is". I had one of the Springfield Armory BM59 20 round magazines with the plastic follower. Same problem, but I was able to grind down that leading edge on the plastic follower and trim the spring a bit with some bolt cutters and now I can get 10 rounds in my 10 round magazine. If I had an extra chrome follower, I would trim it down and use it with my 10 round magazine which originally came with a chrome follower.
  2. Which is it? A BM59 or a BM62? Both of these guns turn up for sale on GunBroker fairly frequently. Based on the prices I have seen over the past twelve months, I would say the a Model 62 is "worth" approximately $1,800.00 to $2,200.00 depending on condition and what comes with it. Now with the Obama "scare", some sellers may be asking more for their military assault rifles, but I am not sure they are getting it.
  3. I would have deleted this post if I knew how to do it. As the new caption indicates, I am now looking for either a 5 or 10 round factory BM59 magazine with a chrome follower. I am also looking for some BM59 magazine parts. Hopefully, someone will have something I can use. Thanks.
  4. Thanks to BM59Collector, I now know how to remove the base plate from a BM59 magazine. I knew there had to be a trick to it. In any case, I am now in the market for a Beretta BM59 5 or 10 round magazine with a chrome follower. I would prefer a factory 5 round magazine if I could find one, but I can get where I need to go with a factory 10 round magazine. I would also be interested in buying a used 20 round factory magazine with a good chrome follower for parts. If you have something you are willing to sell or know where I might be able to find what I am looking for, I would sure like to hear about it. Thanks.
  5. MRJ - 35 years of collecting BM59 bits? Wow! It would be interesting to know just what kind of oddball BM59 bits and pieces you have managed to come up with over the years. This may be one of those cases where the "good old days" really were pretty good. I have exchanged emails with a guy in Texas who was able to buy a full auto BM59 about 10 years ago for $1,700.00. Cheapest one I have seen so far was on GunBroker for right at $12,000.00. Not that I am in the market for a full auto BM59, but just the same. Thanks to Andy in Italy, I was able to buy an original BM59 folding stock and an original BM59 blank adapter. Not exactly sure what I will do with the blank adapter, but it is a pretty unique accessory. Another guy in Italy selling on eBay sold me some BM59 stripper clips and two of the BM59 loading tools. Bennie in New Mexico was nice enough to sell me his quick detachable tricompensator. I have managed to find and buy a 10 round and another 20 round BM59 magazine, both of which have chrome followers. I also found and bought a nice clean standard BM59 bayonet and scabbard. I can imagine that the price on all of this stuff was much cheaper back in the day, but it is still out there if you are willing to look for it. I am curious as to which "popular firearms auction sites" I may have missed. I am fairly active on the Beretta Forum and monitor eBay, AuctionArms, GunBroker, GunsAmerica, and Sturmgewehr on a regular basis. It took me a while, but I did manage to find this forum too. What have I missed?
  6. I am a Beretta collector, but I am relatively new to the Beretta BM59. I have read every single thread on this BM59 board. Lots of good information. It was my understanding that the only "factory" paper on the BM59 was the four language 55 page booklet/brochure/owner's manual and the poster you can buy from Reese Surplus. There is also an Italian Army manual on the BM59, but it is apparently hard to come by. I was, therefore, surprised to find and buy the following Beretta factory BM 59 foldout brochure for sale on eBay. As you can see in the seller's description, this brochure came with the full auto BM59s which were imported into the US back in the 80s (?). The seller had sold the gun, but still had the brochure. This brochure is in two languages, Italian and English, and shows the various versions of the BM59 and two accessories, i. e. the standard BM59 bayonet and scabbard AND a rifle scope. Just thought I would share this "find" with the rest of you. Does anyone have or have they ever seen one of these factory BM59 rifle scopes? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=012
  7. Not much going on on the BM59 Forum lately, but I just wanted to post a follow up to this thread. I was able to find and buy the longer "correct" detachable tricompensator I was looking for from a guy in New Mexico. He responded to a WTB I had posted on Sturmgewehr. I paid $260.00 shipped for the two piece unit which apparently isn't too bad under the circumstances. This is apparently a hard part to find. I also want to thank bm59collector for his help in answering of the questions I had that I could not find answers to anywhere else.
  8. I am a Beretta collector and brand new to this forum. I am primarily into Beretta pistols, but I do have a NIB Beretta marked BM69 with the "Springfield Armory Geneseo IL USA" import mark on the left side of the receiver. I have managed to buy an original Beretta BM59 folding stock from "Andy" in Italy as well as some other original BM59 parts. I have one of the standard BM59 bayonets that is also in excellent condition. I bought one of the two piece Beretta made quick detachable "paratrooper" tricompensators from Reese Surplus, but did not realize until after I got it that it is too short (5") to support the standard BM59 bayonet even though it does have the correct bayonet lug on it. I talked to Colleen Reese and she wasn't aware that there was any difference in the short one they were selling and the longer (7") version that will support the bayonet. Colleen checked with Bob Reese and they do not have any of the longer ones. So .... this is a long way of saying that I am looking for the longer version of the quick detachable BM59 tricompensator. Actually, all I really need is the detachable part, but I would buy both parts and return the shorter one to Reese Surplus. If anyone has one or knows where I can find one, I would sure like to hear about it. You can email me at antiqueslots at juno dot com or call me at (337) 988-4183. Any help or suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks.
