Any Softness In Prices Yet?
wju365 replied to Slimpikins's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
End of the world blather...if your sitting fat with guns...hold them...they ll make money in the long run. Not everyone gets to make a perfect deal...kinda like cars...when has anyone ever announced to you they made a bad deal on a car? The people that blow the most about making good deals....makes me wonder. -

Machinegun Ownership Is So Misunderstood
wju365 replied to Sgt's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I have questions bc some things are not clear to me. Who signed the 1986 act into law and who helped pass it? Who signed the law or restriction banning assault weapons from being imported and who helped pass it? Was the second ban a law or some loophole?? Why was the grandfather clause put in the 1994 ban? Who put that in? -

Wwii Commonwealth Ownership Markings
wju365 replied to RoscoeTurner's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Maybe I heard it here or I read it somewhere else...but I cant remember..Those arrow marking came from the Royal Navy marking timber for ships mast. Is that correct? I am sure it was an acceptance stamp but did it mean which end was up too? Seems that would be obvious. -
What is fishy about it?

Shanghai Police Thompsons
wju365 replied to Sculptor's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
If it were the 1950s would these guys be communist? Didnt Shanghai fall to the communist like the rest of China excepting Hong Kong and Taiwan? Maybe its post war China pre 1949 and the defeat of the Nationalist under Chang Kai Shek. They are not dressed like I think communist would be....but that is a matter of opinion. Talking about what happened to these thompsons...I have interviewed a Korean war veteran who saw the communist Chinese carrying them in battle. He also saw nickel plated thompsons as well as parade 1903s during battles with the Chinese late in the war. -
Jap! the hat favors Japanese style issue...the shirt does not look padded and also favors Japanese style, and the GI doesnt look like he has on but one layer of clothing

Eugene Sledge wrote a sequel to the book with the old breed. Its called China Marine and is about his experience at the end of and after the war. Most of the 1st Marine divisiion that had two battles or less were sent to China after the war was over. In the book Sledge is pictured holding a 1928 a1 while in China. I suspect the older divisions had more 1928a1 model thompsons in stock and the newer divisions formed after the war started had more m1s and m1a1s. I am sure that there was a mix of both model weapons in all of them. I have seen pictures of both in nearly all Pacific battles. I havenot seen any m1 m1a1 s in photos of Guadalcanal. I have even seen a photo of a 1928 with a drum at Okinawa. I have seen both models being used by Merrils Marauders etc. I think whatever was in the crate was used and whatever could be traded stolen etc was used and I dont think there was any reasoning to who got what when. There is evidence of all three models being used throughout the war except for early.

Looking at these answers about storing mags...it leads me to ask another question. How were the mags in the thompson cases found in Russia stored? Those mags were in great shape. I bought three sets a month for a year and not one of them were much below mint.
