  1. QUOTE I wonder if Kahr will use a 11.5 barrel with a unremovable comp. Good idea Norm...will pass that suggestion along. I was thinking GI comps could be fitted but 2 in shorter sounds better. Damon
  2. My understanding is a steel reciever. Should look just like the old ones except for the improvements. We should know pretty soon. Damon
  3. Kahr has made considerable improvements on the gun over the past couple of years. Drum slot chamfers CNC produced internals Colt "style" cocking knob MMI Colt "style" safety Detachable buttstock on some models Redesigned bolt and firing pin Better Frame Reciever Fit Better Wood A few more to come... I am very happy to say I have not had a gun returned for malfucntion in at least two years. The new semi's are deffinately better guns. Damon
  4. Just got one of Bob's 28 dummy recievers in. Was very nice. Made a great dummy gun. Sure beats the junky aluminum ones. Nice job! Damon
  5. Don't know if this came out yet but that's what I heard from a pretty reliable source. No dates or anything yet though. Thought you all should know. Damon
  6. Howdy Yall, I got a message from Kahr last week stating that they were about 6 weeks out on the production. Obviously the date keeps getting pushed back due to problems that need to be worked out. The group buy is still on...when they come out and WORK. Let's have patience and hope to have a good drum. I will post on this thread when I find out for sure. Feel free to keep adding your names to the list here. Let me know if there are any questions. Damon
  7. Bob, Nice Find! Was wondering if you had a chance to shoot it, if it had any jams and if it ran smoothly for you? Please let us know! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/nutkick.gif Best, Damon Change that barrel out and you are in business!
  8. Just got a little tiny tidbit to pass along. The third prototype came in today and I should have some word back on the functionality from Frank maybe by tomorrow. If it passes muster at Kahr then it will go out to others involved for more testing...Tracie/Merle come to mind. I am still pretty hopefull on this. Can't wait...been so long. Best, Damon
  9. He he...I hear they are still "several weeks out". There are still some issues that have to be resolved. At least they are dealing with it and not throwing them at us.
  10. Hello All, I was contacted by John Hunt of Mythbutsters today. They are testing an old myth that claims that a Samurai could chop off an overheated machine gun barrel. They bought an M1 barrel and need it by monday to start testing. They are researching several barrels from different makes including a BAR among others. I am not sure how this would go myself. A Thompson barrel being a SMG has a lighter barrel than others I have seen but is still a pretty solid piece of steel. I have heard that the Samurai Sword makers could make a very hard sword...possibly by folding. If a tornado can send a piece of straw through a piece of steel...I guess anything is possible. Undoubtably this will be airing on a new episode shortly. Thoughts anyone? Damon
  11. Norm! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/hail.gif You got me that time! Sounded like it was taken care of by his description. Won't forget to mention that next time. Damon
  12. Looking real good so far! Nice to see the pics. Damon
  13. I have really nice hardened vertical forgrips and all models of compensator pins. Let me know. 845-657-6576 Damon
  14. Slide the frame off untill it stops (about half way). The frame latch button is caught on the sear. Take a small screwdriver, reach in and lift the frame latch button off of the sear and the frame will slide off. Hope this helps. Best, Damon
  15. Sounds like a spring may be worn or crushed. Give me a call. Damon
  16. Whiskey Brother is right on that one. Don't take the pivot plate off. I have one in the shop right now like that...real mess. Best, Damon
  17. Mike, Good point! I didn't think of that one. I haven't seen any of those before...just the AO and Savage ones. The seller is calling it a factory gage though. At any rate it is getting a good price. Damon
  18. Just an observation here. This gage does not have the same numbering system as the gages I have seen...and I have seen a few. The thread size is right but the indexing is not. I seriously doubt that this is an AO gage...could be a remington gage used to inspect the blanks they produced for the Thompson or could even be for something else with the same threads...Hyde LMG maybe or others? I am not saying it is not for inspecting Thompson parts...just that the indexing does not make sense. Hopefully this will fall into the right hands and perhaps we can find out. At this point...I am not convinced that this is a Thompson gage. Just my .02 FWIW. Damon
  19. Thanks guys...glad I could help. Thats what the board is for. Damon
  20. Dep, You can try holding the cocking knob all the way back and working the trigger to try to get the sear to release. If not you may have to just send it in. This is a VERY common problem and is not unheard of for a new gun to be lock up like this if the dealer or some customer who fondled it was not familiar with the gun cocked it with the safety on. I am not saying this is what happened...just not unheard of. Yet another reason to get a factory fresh gun...dosen't have these problems. My natural instinct is to leave the safety on untill I am ready to shoot but you have to go against your better judgement with the semi Thompson's. After getting it apart you will have to inspect the firing pin and sear for damage and replace/fit if necessary. Like I said this is a common problem. Sorry but I am not aware of a production date or serial number where the improvements were implemented. Is the cocking knob rounded or the cheese grater type? We are working this on two posts...lets keep it to the other for neat housekeeping sake. Hope this helps. Damon

  22. My guess... It was cocked with the safety on and the firing pin dropped down into the cavity that was created and bound against the rear most lip of the sear where it does not belong. This will cause the frame to be under serious tension when you try to remove it. You cannot cock it because your firing pin is already in the cocked position and beyond. Sometimes by pulling back on the cocking knob and working the trigger a bit at the same time you can get the sear to disengage and "fire". (helps with two people) If not it will need to be sent in...they can be a real hassle to get apart sometimes. This can dammage your firing pin and sear...this is even noted in the owners manual. Not a warranty issue for sure. Hope this helps. Damon
  23. Depuy, Welcome to the board! When you say the gun is new...is it factory fresh or a new gun that was purchased through a dealer or distributor that could have been stored for a while and may not have the latest improvments. Just a thought...could the gun have been cocked with the safety on? This could cause it to lock together, unable to cock. Best, Damon
