  1. This actually does NOT have the notch cut into the threads for the compensator pin. I am pretty sure that it hasn't been put on a gun before, considering this, and the overall condition of the barrel. I have a new in the wrapper finned barrel and a new M1 barrel and they both have the "P".
  2. Thanks for the compliment. I am no photographer, I just happened to get lucky with the lighting and focus...! :woot:
  3. Hi All, I just bought a NOS 1928 smooth barrel. It has not been cut for a compensator pin, and it looks to be new. The question that I have is that it does not appear to have "P" marking on the base. See the links for pictures, There's the hash mark, an "S", and then another hash with what looks to be an "O" right next to it. There's also something adjacent to the "O", it looks like an L very lightly struck. Perhaps the O is struck over something, I can't really tell. It came all wrapped up in nice kraft type paper, not that that means a whole lot I suppose. Any thoughts would be appreciated - I am interested to know if this is original or an aftermarket/repro. I thought it should have the "P" proof mark. Thanks! http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2qb669u&s=5 http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=18oshy&s=5 http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=9ko1eb&s=5
  4. I am looking for a NIW barrel. Would prefer the thick finned variety. Must be original USGI, marked accordingly. Anyone know where I might be able to find one?? Thanks, Matt
  5. Hi Paul, If you are interested in selling the barrel, please let me know. I am in the market for one, looking to re-barrel my Thompson. Regards, Matt mrollender@yahoo.com
  6. Was the IMA barrel already "slotted" for the compensator pin? Also, what was the condition of the bore? Would you say that the barrel was close to being new or was it pretty used? I have bought some BAR parts in the past from Omega, and have been very, very pleased with them.
  7. Do you know if you can specify a particular manufacturer when you get the hand select barrel from IMA or just gett a better quality one?
  8. Hi Bob - thanks for the insights! My gun has been re-parked somewhere along the way, and most (but not all) of the parts got parked along with the receiver). While it's not original, and never will be since it's been re-done, I still want to give it a better look by putting some (more) blued parts on it. Thanks!! Matt
  9. This will be an easy one for you experts....I have a Auto Ordnance WWII thompson. What finish should the small parts have - a bright blue or a dull blue (or something else)? Thanks, Matt
  10. Hi All, I don't have any experience completely disassembling an L drum. I recently bought one, and its got a lot grease throughout. I want to clean it under the rotor. Does this come out (and go back together) easily? How to do it? Thanks, Matt
  11. Anybody know where I could find a mounting bracket for the ART II scope? THANKS!
  12. What were the guns that were sold? Interesting list?
  13. The DLO guns are not original WWII C&R guns, they are sideplate guns. The ones that I have seen have been built with Colt commercial parts (for the most part). I think overall they are very well made guns and run well. YOu should pick up a copy of Dolf Goldsmith's book, The Browning Machine Gun, there's some great info there on the aircraft guns. I would also recommend that you shop around a bit, $21k for a DLO ANM2 is a bit pricey for the market today. There are a couple here and there that I know of that are few thousand less than that. Also, beware that parts are VERY hard to find for these things!
  14. Hi, I did send Valkyrie Arms a note, but they never got back to me. In the meantime, I did find a like new barrel that I am very happy with. They are out there, but I don't think any of the typical sources have them. You really have to scrounge around. -Matt
  15. Doug, Have you tried Bob Naess of Black River Militaria? He is in Cavendish, VT, don't know if that's close to you, but he is very capable! Regards, Matt
  16. I am looking for M3 grease gun barrel(s). First preference is New In Wrap. Anybody know where I can get a couple of them? Thanks, Matt
  17. I am looking for a 4th style Auto Ordnance compensator, NOS or as close as possible to NOS. Can anybody point me to a source? Thanks, Matt
  18. Mine is also just marked with a "P", nothing else, 4th style comp, and it's a smooth barrel. The gun is WB marked with a high serial number, so it was probably made in 1942. Regards, Matt ps - you said 'started out'? Did you put a finned barrel and Lyman sight on it?
  19. So, this might be an obvious question, but did Auto Ordnance make both the finned and smooth barrel types? In the barrel section of Franks book, it talks about the barrel markings, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't distinguish what types of barrels were made by what manufacturers. Is the assumption that all manufacturer's made both finned and smooth barrels? I have a later production AO gun (post 80,000 SN), with an L sight, and a smooth barrel. What would be correct barrel markings? Could it have a Savage marked barrel, or would an AOC marked smooth barrel be correct? Thanks! Matt
  20. I recently bought one of the rguns kits. While I wouldn't say they are 'brand new', they are about as good as you are gonna get for a kit like this. Not surface rust, overall condition in about 98-99%. On mine, the compensator had some scratch marks on it, and there were a few minor, minor dings here and there. Not brand new, but very close. Downside is that they only have finned barrels (I would have preferred a smooth one...). -Matt
  21. Hi, I can tell you a few of the differences, but I'm sure that I don't know *all* of them. From what I have seen, the rear sight assembly is different. The 1917 uses a much more elegant (read more little parts!!) rear sight. Also, the front sight/hood is different. The muzzle glans is also different, so putting on a USGI flash hider could be a problem (the threading is different). I think the grips on the backplate were different too. Oh, and the 28's typically have a commercial tripod. There are probably more, but that's what I remember. If you have a 28 kit, and are trying to build a gun that has the 'look' of the 1917, the rear sight is the big modification that you'd want - good luck finding one though!! -Matt
  22. thank you, George. My apologiesif I broke a rule(s) - I will go back and check things out more closely.
