bug
Does anyone have the exact barrel length of the gun? I have an early 97 that already had the barrel cut to 26" by the previous owner. I'd like to shorten it for HD. What I don't want to do is cut it too short. Sooner or later I'll have to get a repro heat shield and get that mil look. TIA Bob D
dalbert
My WWII Model 97 Trench Gun measures 20 15/16" from the end of the barrel, back to the front edge of the receiver cutout next to the chamber. bug
Thank you David. One more question if you would. The gun has a removable barrel and I'm not sure if that changes things. What is the "BATF" measurement? That being bolt face to muzzle. Bob D
dalbert
It's 20 7/8" long when I measure a rod placed into it with the bolt closed. Bolt face to muzzle... David Albertdalbert@sturmgewehr.com
Kilroy
My trench is a very early one, made in the first year of production. It is a solid frame and measuring from the receiver to the end of the barrel is right at 19.5" http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/RedSpecialSS/262fbd08e6493c3dfca086b9fabf0e03_zps96d145dc.jpg
bug
Thanks Neil, would the measurement be the same if the tape were in the bore and bottomed against the bolt face?
Kilroy
Best I can do is shove a dowel down the bore with the bolt closed, mark the dowel and then measure the length of the dowel. That mark was exactly at 20 1/4" So, you have 3/4" of barrel in the receiver that I can't measure from the outside.
