StooperZero
if you can get a chance to take a pic of it's guts that would be nice.
Kilroy
Have not shot it, did put a couple rounds in it and cycle it. It chambered, extracted and ejected fine. I am not going to have a chance to go to the range for a while, so hopefully this works! I took it apart and it's a real simple design. Taking the barrel and bolt group apart was super simple however the lower receiver did not come out easy. It is a really tight fit and required some motivation to come apart in the sense of a wooden dowel and hammer. These were also needed to get it back together. Kilroy
Well, shot it... And I think it broke. First magazine shot fine. Second didn't. You can hear the click of the hammer falling but there is no following bang. Cycle the action, extracts/ejects/loads fine. Click. Repeat the above and it happened several times. Thought it might be the magazine because the second one was very tight fitting. Third magazine same thing happened. Looking at the unfired rounds it looks like there was no primer strike. Wonder if the firing pin broke? That was 'fun' while it lasted. I'll take it apart when I'm feeling patient. Not becuase it's difficult to get apart and inspect but because I'm trying to avoid having a stroke.
StooperZero
sounds like FP is broke or froze in place. I'll give you a cat for it.
jim c 351
Kilroy,Did you check the warranty to see if it was guaranteed for more than one mag??????????Just trying to be helpful.Jim C
Kilroy
It's supposed to be guaranteed for as long as the original owner owns it. But what are the chances of ever seeing it again? I took it apart and I think the firing pin broke. I measured the length of the firing pin and compared it to the length of the bolt from the bolt face to the back of the bolt and the bolt is longer. When it's reassembles and you push the firing pin flush with the rear of the bolt to simulate the hammer striking the tip of the firing pin does not protrude from the bolt face. There were also metal shavings/fragments that came out of the bolt body. I inspected my ammo after I got home and none of the rounds cycled that did not fire had primer strikes. StooperZero
that's bullshit. take a pic of this firing pin if you can. one of us might have a solution laying about.
jim c 351
Kilroy,It could have an inertia firing pin like the 1911 pistol. Does the tip of the pin look broken? Maybe the metal shavings jammed the pin.How hard were the primers hit on the rounds that did fire??Jim C
Kilroy
I honestly didn't pay attention to the fired brass, then it all got swept up with brass that was fired through my 1911A1 or Thompson. The firing pin does have a small spring to it but I didn't pull it out to check it. Was running short on time. Pictures will be added in a moment. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/RedSpecialSS/5db0041a10d27790613e1c5287f35ad6_zpsz7drimyh.jpghttp://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/RedSpecialSS/50711ce00be9640783f36591afd6f477_zpsz514uvxi.jpghttp://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/RedSpecialSS/41a9605ad5ebe504a2c0103fb45d5804_zpsjx1pq5nh.jpghttp://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/RedSpecialSS/d556799ab2c8d548c2c495f47c535d81_zps19qkhzbp.jpg Edited May 20, 2015 by Kilroy
StooperZero
is that dirt or is that thing just that rough?
jim c 351
Kilroy,The firing pin doesn't look broken to me.Give the gun a thorough cleaning top to bottom. Lightly lube and reassemble.Get your hands on a primed case, without powder and bullet. Spray the primer with WD40 to kill it and let it set over night.Next day put it in chamber and pull the trigger. Then post pics of primer here for us to examine.Jim C Edited May 20, 2015 by jim c
StooperZero
one things for sure. I know Im not the only cheap bastard who's bought those pittsburgh calipers at horror freight.
Kilroy
I'll pull a case down, kill the primer as you suggested and then try it tomorrow. It's not a cheap harbor freight caliper... It's Brad Pitts. I paid extra for it because it was used on the set of Fury
Kilroy
Took it apart and thoroughly cleaned it. Rubbed all the parts down with CLP and then filled the firing pin hole with Rem Oil and let the excess drain out. It seems that the firing pin sticks in the bolt. When it sticks, neither the tip of the firing pin is protruding from the bolt face nor is the rear portion of the pin sticking out through the back of the bolt. There is a spring to reset the firing pin back to the rear but it almost seems as if it doesn't have enough tension to reset the firing pin back to the rear. So, maybe when the firing pin is getting stuck, with neither end protruding so there's nothing to hit the primer and nothing for the hammer to hit? With the firing pin flush to the rear of the bolt it is about 1/16" away from the bolt face, maybe more. So, it would have to travel quite a ways to hit the primer hard enough to fire. Kilroy
Pulled a couple cases down as advised, put them through there and the thing worked fine. Don't know what this means, if it was just dirty or what. But the primers were definitely hit today. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/RedSpecialSS/48C5AEC2-8597-45CC-A5D1-743B22F05BBF_zpsnuvtibnz.jpg

Kilroy
It'll be a while. Any thoughts of something goes awry? I wonder if I need to polish the firing pin and slightly (by thousandths) narrow it so it doesn't snag? If the thing is that sensitive that it jams after one mag... May be up to a month before I get to shoot it.
j.hayes1942
The firing pin looked pretty rough to me. I don't think you could go wrong with polishing it up a bit. The firing pin channel in the bolt may have rough spots also. You may have to be somewhat creative to get anything done there. Simichrome polish on a pipe cleaner might help some. jh
emmagee1917
How about some Fritz or maybe Clover valve grinding compound or ...... what's that bore polishing paste ?The distance it must fly on it's own prob'ly explains the weak FP spring.Chris
emmagee1917
Took out my Colt 1911 last Monday and was cleaning it today . It's a M1991 . The slide with the stop in is 2.313 long and the firing pin is 2.280 , so it flys free for .033 befor exiting into the primer . Just over 1/32 of an inch .Chris
Kilroy
Took it out for the first time since the issue. It ran fine, had one or two times where it failed to chamber a round but other than that it shot fine. Let's see if it can continue to run. On a semi related note. I've never shot a real grease gun but the sights on this thing are terrible and the stock and general 'feel' of the gun is just meh. I'll stick with the Thompson. emmagee1917
I have two live ones . The USGI M3 sights were / are right on . The Media M3A1 was unuseable . On the old , full sized police target from the 80s ( B17 ? ) I would have to aim below the right edge of the coat tails to get chest hits at 25 yds. The guns were much cheeper back then , so I cut off the front blade . This is part of the reciever , so now there was a hole in it . Took the front sight off a Ruger Blackhawk which has a base pad on it and trimmed the pad down to cover said hole . Took it to a friends motorcycle shop to have it welded on . Took it out to sight in , and I'll be darned , it was perfect . Finished it to match and noone has ever noticed it .Chris
