Apparently it was purchased new by the City of Kinston, NC Police Department in 1935 and has been owned by them ever since. Today at 12:10 AMThis sale is for a fully automatic, Vintage, Military grade Thompson Machine Gun. The potential buyer is required to have a Federal Firearms License and provide all ATF transfer documentation, fees, payment and associated auction documentation prior to this firearm being released by the City of Kinston.…NO EXCEPTIONS. ITEM FOR AUCTION: (1) 45 Caliber Thompson Machine Gun 1921 Overstamped 1928 with the following: (1) Type "L" 50 cartridge drum magazine, (1) 30 cartridge straight magazine, (2) 20 cartridge straight magazines, (1) canvas carry case w/shoulder strap, (1) brass cleaning rod. The weapon has the following markings: U.S. NAVY, MODEL OF 1921 (Overstamped 1928), NO 8919, Trade Mark Thompson, Made by "Lyman" Middlefield Conn.U.S.A., Trade Mark Cutts (flash suppressor), Auto-Ordnance Corporation, New York, U.S.A., The City of Kinston has 2 letters from the Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms confirming that this weapon is registered to the City of Kinston, Police Department on an ATF form 5 with no restrictions and was approved on November 26, 1935, and that the City possess this weapon lawfully.
