Mywifesgunakillme
Looking to see if anyone else has an original vertical grip with marking like these?
Mywifesgunakillme
It came off of a gun that was owned by a Police Department in Florida, and has since been destroyed. It was a supposedly a Savage Gun. Edited February 2, 2016 by Mywifesgunakillme
bug
Strombeck-Becker made grips for the WWll Thompsons and used an M mark. The S looks like the Savage mark. Is the mark toward the front US with an anchor? Could very well have been one of the early Commercial guns. Is there any way you could track the SN? Mywifesgunakillme
The "S" is toward the rear of the grip, and the anchor marking is located forward of the hole where the grip screw hole is.
bug
Yes. Is it my imagination or does the anchor have U T S ? The T being the anchor.
Mywifesgunakillme
I don't have it in hand, or I'd check to see if it is "uTs" or just US flanking the anchor. I will try to get better pictures. Does UTS stand for something? I just figured it was US marked next to an anchor.
bug
Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse things. I was just using the T as a visual for an anchor. I guess you answered my question and the mark is an anchor with U S on either side of the anchor shank. I have no idea what that would indicate but Remington did mark their Thompson butt stocks with an anchor. I'd love to know the serial number of that PD Thompson... Mywifesgunakillme
The owner said there is a five digit number written in pencil in the groove, between the "S" and the mounting screw hole, and that it was partially visible in the pictures. I can see some numbers in the last photo posted, but can't make them all out with the glare and grease.
Mywifesgunakillme
Does anyone suspect these are some reproduction markings? I have an opportunity to purchase the grip, but don't want to pay a few hundred dollars for a reproduction, fantasy piece. I've only seen the "S" on ww2 grips. I've never seen the "M", nor the anchor with US marking.
Mywifesgunakillme
I'm going to pass on it just because there are too many markings and my "Spider Senses" are telling me that they are red flags. I think I'm just going to order a grip from Dan Block, or maybe even a complete furniture set.
