Tiz
Netflix just added the movie Public Enemies. I watched it when it first came out and again last night, a lot of Tommy Gun action. I have been meaning to visit Little Bohemia for some time maybe this if this is the year.

john
My wife and I need to run from Minnesota to Lake Geneva sometime in the next week....been thinking about a trip here for a couple years and, well.....this is "almost" right on the way.Kinda like the SAR West show in Phoenix was "almost" on the way back to Minnesota from Texas!! If we do make it, there will be pictures! John Edited May 19, 2020 by john
giantpanda4
Went a few years ago. Sat in the same table where the actual 1930's bullet holed glass is. The outside if the lodge has "evidence" of a shooting, they will point it out. But with a bit of deduction, it is not possible that 40 year old trees had bullet markings from 90 years ago. What they are showing is where the movie folks that made the recent movie used explosive impact markers (not sue what you call them). So it looked in the movie like bullets hit the trees. Also the (newer?) railings are full of newer holes. The one window in the back corner does have the original glass with holes still in it - the owners left that there and covered it with more glass. It is still very cool... well worth the stop! There is a small museum just down the road and they have a lot of memorabilia there about the event. Chip
If you like the movie, you'll love the book. It's full of footnotes and references for a number of gangsters from FBI and other records.

peter kohler
someone correct me if im wrong but I thought I saw a 30 round stick mag being used in the bank robbery scene where they took the hostages. my imagination? thought they were made in the early 40s... doesent matter, I still liked the movie. I remember my dad and grand father telling me stories about the gangsters especially about creepy karpis. many many years ago!!!! my dad stayed in the reserves after ww2 I was 12 in 62. he would take me to the military range with him and check out different weapons for us to shoot. I got to shoot a Thompson and BAR on one excursion. unlimited ammo left over from the war. great times.

Chip
Yes Bryan Burrough is the author, looks like one publish date of June 2005 and another April 2009 to correspond with the movie release. https://www.amazon.com/Public-Enemies-Americas-Greatest-1933-34/dp/0143115863 Same author, but different ISBN's

mnshooter
Pretty sure some of the wood on the movie guns came from Deerslayer's shop.

And the BAR in the bank robbery looked like one of Clyde Barrow's cut down versions. Edited May 22, 2020 by jpw43

michaelkih
The close up shot of one of the Thompsons used showed that it was a Savage 1928A1 that was rebuilt in Augusta. LOL
