mitchell6776
Greetings. I recently acquired a nice 08/15. I was wondering what types of surplus ammo run well in these? I have a couple sites that I usually buy ammo from, but any good sources for 8mm Mauser would be appreciated. Thanks Matt

bbrown
The Romanian 8mm is too short (150g) to work in my 08/15, but PPU and the like (170g and higher) work fine.

The 8mm Romanian I was referring to above is the surplus military stuff that was available in bulk around 15 years ago. Since then, I encountered some current manufacture Romanian 8mm ammo. Yes, the current stuff is shorter than the military stuff from back then. I was given two loaded Vickers belts, 500 rounds total, of the short 8mm ammo. I removed the ammo from the belts, pulled the bullets, and reseated the bullets back to match the overall length of the longer 8mm stuff. The reseated bullet ammo fed and fired just fine. Here is a picture I took showing before and after of the reseated the bullet ammo: The left two rounds are the current manufacture Romanian short 8mm ammo. The third round from the left is a surplus 8mm Romanian round from 15 years ago.The round on the far right is an 8mm Romanian short round with the bulled pulled and reseated back to match the overall length of the 8mm surplus ammo.
