Reising FOIA came back, left with more questions than answers

Good evening everybody, my Reising FOIA just came back and as expected much is redacted.

However the form 2 from H&R was mostly left untouched, and of particular interest was the date it was filed.

My S/N is 45xxx there is no prefix so I believe it to be a late 1942 or early 1943 gun.

However the Form 2 from H&R was dated June 1 1961, so I’m wondering why that would be? If it was actually made then, wouldn’t it have a letter prefix?

Would it suggest that it was with a police department or the military, never was properly regulated and then when sent to H&R for whatever reason (be it surplus, repair, ect) they decided to register it themselves?

I’m curious what everybody’s thoughts are.

You got more than I did.  They redacted the manufacturer on all of my forms.  Some only had the date.  They also sent me a bunch of blank pages with just the citation of the law that they redacted it under.

Yeah they did that with pretty much everything else, my sten form 2 was also way more redacted. Only showed the date and my S/N (I think I may try to appeal it).

My apologies, but what do you mean by “TD. Will be your definitive answer?”

And yeah unfortunately unlike later form 2’s it doesn’t distinguish if it was imported, manufactured ect

Member Tom Davis who screen name is TD. There is a period after TD in his screen name.

He is quite knowledgable on deciphering FOIA results.

It appears your Sten tube was manufactured and registered 5/11/1986 just prior to the Hughes Amendment enactment 5/19/1986.  There were eleven machineguns manufactured on that Form.
