USMC711
A lot of good engravers are offering the "US Property" Mark for the M1A1 Thompsons. Does this mark signify British Lend Lease guns, or, was applied to most M1A1 Thompsons? Any marks specific to U.S.M.C. use?
gijive
USMC711, You're correct, it was applied to most M1A1 guns and no, there are no specific manufacturing markings unique to the Marine Corps.

SecondAmend
USMC711, It's your gun and all but I believe adding non-original "U.S.PROPERTY" engraving will detract from the value of the gun. Even a West Hurley M1A1. Any close look will show that the markings are engraving not original stamping or roll marks. MHO, YMMV, etc.
USMC711
Hi Second Ammendment: No, I am not engraving a live gun. I am in the process of putting together two dummy display guns (all NFA rules apply) with the USMC Pacific Theatre in mind. So, all the bells and whistles. I do regard the "U.S. Property" mark to be lend lease, as such marks were applied to the Savage built No. 4 Enfield Rifles sent to Canada and the UK. But if it is not relevant to M1A1's issued to the U.S.M.C., then it is not something for me. Crossed cannon stamps, maybe.
TNKen
I think the US Property mark was applied differently on Savage vs. AO guns, one was readable from the rear, the other up side down. Don't recall which. Ken
SecondAmend
As TNKen notes, the AOC and Savage made receivers are marked differently. Per page 118 of "American Thunder" (I don't know what page of AT II), from the shooter's viewpoint: AOC made guns are marked on a single line the appears upside down; and Savage made guns read right side up and are marked with "U.S." on the top line and "PROPERTY" on the lower line.
