NDLawyer
This morning one of our staff who usually picks up and delivers mail from our county jail administration office told me they had a Thompson in Jail Administration in a display case. Well, I just had to go see for myself. The closest I could get without being buzzed into the "inner sanctum" was about twenty feet, but sure enough, in a glass and wood case, mounted on the wall, is what appears to be a 1928 with the Lyman sight and cutts, with an L drum inserted, and XX, XXX mags in the display case. This almost brough tears to my eyes. First, because it wasn't mine, and second, because full auto ownership isn't legal in Kansas for us ordinary folks (only authorized Law enforcement). At least it has a good home and isn't being put to the torch. I need to see if I can pull a few strings with Jail Admin and get in to take some pictures. Given our current budget problems, maybe they are willing to sell it. . .
Sgt
Awhile back, I remember a post about a new police chief wanting to destroy (Dillinger's?) Thompson. What ever happened with that?
Walter63a
NDLawyer, sounds like the great state of Kansas needs to change the law so ordinary citizens can own MG's ans SMG's. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Regards, Walter P.S. Sgt., I haven't heard anything about (Dillinger's) Thompson either.
full auto 45
If they are willing and able to sale it, you just let me know. I like the police guns that have been collecting in my safe now. Something with a real history behind it.
NDLawyer
If I ever hear that the sheriff's department is willing to sell, this board will be the first to know. Given that Kansas hasn't passed a concealed carry law yet, I doubt we are anywhere near legalizing full auto weapons. Interestingly enough though, while it is illegal to own a short barreled shotgun under state law here, it appears to be legal to own a short barreled rifle. I went through the statutes several times and just couldn't find where it prohibited a barrel on a rifle of less than 16". Go figure.
