Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner
A long time collector friend of mine who is not a member of this board is looking to liquidate some of his Thompson items. Up first are two leather motorcycle scabbards. Both are of the same manufacturer marked U.S. Graton and Knight Co. 1942. He has had these for about 50 years and doesn’t believe either saw service as there are no scuffs or cuts. He was concerned with them drying out and so they were treated with Neatsfoot oil and both are pliable but but the finish on the lighter one is not nearly as good as the darker scabbard, it is a bit rougher and not smooth. Still it is s good representative example and an original scabbard. . The lighter one needed some stitching which was done at a saddle repair shop and is as good as original The manufacturer’s markings on the lighter one are difficult if almost impossible to read but are easily read on the darker one as shown in the photo. He is asking $600.00 for the darker one and $450.00 for the lighter but will entertain reasonable offers. If anyone is interested drop me an EM and I will put you in touch with him. These are not mine and I have nothing to gain but to help him out. I hope to list some other items for him shortly. Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner
OK, So there seems to be no interest in these items. Should I start a poll? Does everyone already have one in their collection? Is the price out of line? Is the quality lacking? Or is it just the economy stupid? Would like your opinions. I guess Ebay is the next step. darrylta
Roland, It's the market! Normal everyday buyers are only interested in screaming deals. The well to do buyers are buying seldom offered excellent quality items at slight mark down prices. With real time 20% under employment / unemployment there is not much disposable cash out there that us normal folks are willing to part with. Everyone is saving what little they have for the upcoming financial collapse of the dollar, the Fed has started monetizing our debt to the tune of trillions of dollars. Most see this as the last nail in the coffin, the devaluation of the dollar has began just as Soros had planned. Rather than buying machine guns, it might be more prudent to get into Forex options and short the dollar. The heady days of people being flush with cash by cashing out their home equity piggy bank is over. My 2 cents, Darryl Edited November 4, 2010 by darrylta

I would suspect you would do much better on Ebay. I sell all of my extras either there or on Gunbroker to avoid some of the issues created trying to sell here. Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner
Asking price has been lowered. He is asking $500 and $350, respectively but would entertain offers or a firearms trade. Nothing in it for me, if your interested in making an offer let me know. rpbcps
Mark,Welcome to the board. The leather scabbards were used for motorbikes and not for Jeeps. Back in the 1980's I served in the French Foreign Legion, and we were still using WW2 surplus vehicles back then in Djibouti, where I had the pleasure to spend 2 1/2 years of my service. In the Jeeps, if I recall correctly, there was a metal frame on the dash of the Jeeps for the driver to place his weapon, maybe that was a modification put in place by the French. In my collection, I have a web case with a frame, pictures in this post:http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21116&hl=%2Bthompson+%2Bcover I believe that was originally designed for use on half tracks though, not Jeeps. We had a few working half tracks in Djibouti too! Stay safe Richard Edited May 17, 2020 by rpbcps

rpbcps
Mark,I stand corrected after seeing all these pictures of leather Thompson scabbards attached to Jeeps, and also a 'local' source, if you are interested in a reproduction. https://www.jeepsudest.com/boutique/216-accessoires-armement-us-gb/3047-holster-cuir-thompson-m1a1-m28-a1/ Stay safeRichard
