New Guy With A "fun" Gun
mike in pa replied to David Clark's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Update on new Kahr M1 Tommy. I finally got to take it out this past saturday for the first time since it popped the extractor on the first shot. Suprizingly it ate up 200 rounds of factory and reloads with out a hitch plus it never ruptured a primer again! Go Figure! Now to send out the Form 1. -

Mike - I'd like to see a picture of the tools you created. I just finished these up while long term subbing for a metal shop teacher at the high school that I work at. It's nice to have all the material that I needed, but the equipment is not the most current CNC stuff so it's all manually finished. The barrel clamp is set up for an index card wrapped around the barrel or brass shim. The receiver holding fixture still needs a piece of thin foam around the inside of the "hoop" so it won't mar the finish. The front piece of the fixture is made of tool steel and will fit in my vise. There is enough room to slip in a piece of paper when you put the nose of the reciever in it plus it fits real snug. http://i40.tinypic.com/2uiddli.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/5djbs1.jpg -

That looks real neat! You might want to pick up a registered Norell trigger pack! -

That really sucks, but at least you got a dozen rounds down the tube before the extractor popped! I just bought a M1 for a SBR project and I took it out today to test fire it before I send in the Form 1. Well I got off one round, heard a Pfffff and the gun was jammed! The short story is, the primer ruptured (factory ammo), the extractor came foward out of position and would not let the bolt come back past the ejector and the fired case was jammed on a fresh round. I tapped the extractor back into the bolt. I figured all this out when I got home and now I will have to try it again next weekend. On the bright side I was able to make the tools to take off the barrel when the Form 1 comes back. When get a chance I will post a pic of the barrel wrench/clamp and receiver holding fixture. -

Fitting Aftermarket Barrels
mike in pa replied to reconbob's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Soon I will be building a SBR out of a Kahr M1, what are the current barrels of choice for building a shorty? How are the front rings sights held on the barrel, pinned, press on or silver solder? Kahr/Tommy Gunner... Numrich/Gun Parts... PK... (any idea on current price?) Other... Thanks! -
Shortly, I will be picking up a semi M1 Thompson for a SBR project, if anyone has one for sale let me know or I will order a new one to Form 1 then make the SBR. I would order a factory SBR, but they want way too much ($600 extra) for a factory SBR and the only thing they did was screw on a shorter barrel. Now for the shorter barrel issue, can the original barrel be turned down, crowned and the front site ring installed? If I need to buy a new barrel who sells decent barrels, I hear that there are issues with Numrich and Kahr but what about tommygunner.com or are they the same? Any input appreciated! Thanks!

Where To Buy A Nice 1928a1 Kit
mike in pa replied to Art's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Anyone here bought one of these kits from IMA? This past spring I bought a complete regular kit and a spare internal parts kit from IMA and I was very happy with the condition of all the parts, most looked like new. The wood had some marks but nothing too serious. -
Auto Ord. 50 Rnd Drum

"They attack and threaten the maker with a law suit, if he continues to put even the word "Thompson" on the drum, claiming the word is their intellectual property;" Why would they threaten with a lawsuit? Because the chinese copy works? LOL I do want to pick up another L drum, are the ones sold by fortune lot any better? -
Auto Ord. 50 Rnd Drum
mike in pa replied to beltfed 30's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I had a problem with my T12KT drum, my westie would stop running after 4-5 rounds, recock and fire the same amount, stop and recock. I looked inside and found that there were scrape marks at the same point on the housing, these marks came from the six pointed rotor. So I took my dremel and cleaned the ends of the rotor points. Last weekend I went to my buddys place and ran two full drums with out a problem and one drum full would stop around the twelve to fifteen round mark between stoppages so I must be on track with tweeking my drum. I am going to look once more and see if there are any othr spots that I missed. -

West Hurley Production And Original Cost...
mike in pa replied to mike in pa's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Thanks guys, that is the info that I was looking for! -
I remember coming across a list of serial numbers and date of manufacturing for the West Hurley guns, but I can't seem to find it...anybody have the link handy? Does anybody have an idea of the original cost of a West Hurley gun back when they were orignally produced? Maybe someone has a list of original cost by year from the 1970's through to May of 1986? Yeah, I know that I am a pain in the butt, but this stuff is interersting to me! And yes I do have a Ba in History! LOL Thanks!

It's not your fault that he can not give an accurate quote, personally, I would only give him 10% over what he quoted me! -
West Hurley Stocks...
mike in pa replied to mike in pa's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
"My WH '28 was made in 1986 and it does not have the cross bolt. It does have the cheap paint wearing off non-steel stock latch. ;-)" Mine is doing the same thing! Apparently they must have run out of crossbolt stocks towards the end years. Overall the gun is mint and the wood is sweet! I doubt that the stock was changed. -
A friend of mine has a 1980 vintage West Hurley that has a cross bolt through the stock which he claims is original, but my 1983 does not. Anybody have an idea on which is correct and which has been replaced. Thanks! Mike

Mine is the disconnector lever which is the usual part. Other registered parts could be: trigger housing, slide, hammer, disconnector.

Hay stainless, did you take care of the selector issue? Due to a few issues last year, I rebuilt the bolt in my M2 carbine and I found the extractor spring in three pieces! All new parts in the bolt I hope to shoot it soon!
