  1. Interesting how the story of the Thompson changed. I think the Win 1897 in the 2012 auction sold for $110,000. I thought this was funny because the famous photo of Bonnie with a shot gun was with a Remington model 11 whippet gun, not a 97.
  2. I was always suspicious that no photos of the Thompson in Bonnie or Clyde's hands ever surfaced. They liked photos and the Thompson would have been an natural for that purpose.
  3. Here is the 1921 Thompson sold in Kansas City in January 2012. It was recovered at the Barrow hideout in Joplin andter Bonnie and Clyde fled. I don't know the exact provenance they had. They were very nice and let me get close to take these three photos. The Thompson sold for $130,000. Only $129,000 more than I could pay . I don't think Clyde was ever photographed with a Thompson, I think if he was photographed with this one it would have sold for even more.
  4. I have 3 pics of the Thompson recovered in Joplin. I'll post them but must find them first!
  5. I had the exact same problem with my TM1, until I SBRed it. The problem is the longer barrel, no question about that. I think your only choices are to use as is ( which is what I did) or have one fabricated by a gunsmith / machinist with the peep near the top where the current notch is. Another option is to have the earlier "L" type fabricated with the peep near the top and this might be less expensive.
  6. I have an original Winchester 1907 10 shot magazine. Does anyone know how to take one apart for cleaning? This is the only forum where the rifle is discussed so I hope someone can help me out. I know how to take apart the aftermarket mags but not the originals. Thanks in advance! Kevin
  7. A chrome plated SBR, and drum would be great fun for Zoot shooting, especially if the owner had an over the top costume. I could also see a chrome SBR as a ladies gun, would look great with a flapper costume. I actually like the chrome gun better than those commemorative Thompsons they used to sell in the gun magazines. My wife would love it in a red velvet case, but I'm more of a traditionalist, no fancy finishes for me. The gold gun (I think it's gold titanium like the gold Desert Eagle) is the same deal.
  8. Yes, I have only one complaint on the technical aspect of the gun. It has a tight magazine well and will only accept about half of the surplus mags I've tried. The original mag and an after market one fit and function fine. The gun is fun and reasonably accurate.
  9. I have one of the Valkyrie Arms M3A1 semi grease guns also. Does your still have the fixed (welded) wire butt stock? Mine does, I'd like to have it converted to a retractable style. Valkyrie Arms offered to do it (for a fee) but I declined as I did not want by gun to disappear if they went out of business again, which they since have.
  10. Beautiful revolver! The new service was a law enforcement staple for decades.
  11. Any idea what the current wait time is? The last I heard was five to six months but that may not be right.
  12. Never judge the 38 Super by Fiocchi or Magtech ammo. IMHO, and your mileage may vary, these manufacturers load undersize 9mm (.354) bullets and use modest powder charges. In fairness their ammo will function most guns but will not turn any heads with performance. It's like hand loads which function the pistol, but do not have the expected velocity for the bullet weight and caliber. I guess they do this because there may be some 38 ACP pistols out there, or people unwisely using 38 Super in 9mm Largo guns like the Astra 400. Another reason could be fear of blown case heads, as there is an unsupported part of the case in a M1911 chamber.
  13. I've always wanted to try this one: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/stock-parts/furniture-sets/10-22-chicago-furniture-conversaion-kits-prod27480.aspx Much more in my price range.
  14. How is the Thompson jamming? failure to feed? failure to extract? stove pipe? If the Thompson is jamming, I would first change the magazine and clean the chamber, use a good 45 caliber bronze brush and make sure the chamber is clean. Lubricate as outlined in the posts above. If the problem persists post some pictures and a description of the problem, someone should be able to help.
  15. It may be something to do with the longer barrel on the semi.
  16. On my TM1, the rear sight has a v notch at the top and an apature (hole) underneath it. The apature shoots low at 25 yds, the v notch is right on. So I use the v notch, but I was wondering which one is the long range sight? I think it should be the notch, but that is the reverse of how my particular gun performs. Does anyone know the answer?
  17. I'm considering an SBR conversion for my 1996 vintage West Hurley M1927A1 to an SBR. Is the current Kahr Arms 10 in barrel compatable? I like it becasue it is already finnished in blue and would seem to be a straightfoward replacement. Also if anyone has done this conversion, did you use the cutts compensator off the long barrel or did you purchase a new one? The cutts seems difficult to remove. TIA , Enforcer
  18. T Hound, thanks for the help! Your instructions were great and gave me a background. A friend who has done this before helped me out and we're sucessfully mission accomplished.
