  1. I had a toy Tommy gun about 1956 or so. Don't remember who made it but I wore it out in about 8 months. We had some great battles together and also shot my share of alien monsters!!!!! Now I have Kahr/AO 1927A1 semi and a TM1 semi Tommy gun. And you know what they are still a blast to shoot, only now I get to use real bullets!!!
  2. Here's a link to the post I did a while ago on how I fixed all 18 mags that I had that misfed in my 1927A1 and TM1. It worked great for me so give it a try with your worst feeding mag. http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18096
  3. I use a program called Paint.net it's free and does a decent job of adjusting photo's and the price is right!!
  4. I got my loader on Tuesday. They are fantastic, beautiful to look at and work excellently. I'll be ordering another in a month or two and may get the one in red quilted maple.
  5. I got the "United States Submachine Guns" book today from a local gun store. Haven't had a chance to look at it yet. The Ultimate Thompson Book is worth every penny and then some. It will take me months to get through it! It's a fantastic resource.
  6. I found "The Ultimate Thompson Book" on Amazon from a book dealer new in wrapper and ordered it Friday. It came this morning. I knew the book was BIG but in person it's very impressive. It will take me a couple of months to go thru it. One of the local gun stores has a copy of The American Submachine Guns. I'm going over tomorrow to get that copy. I'm eagerly awaiting the new American Thunder III books arrival as I'm sure everyone else is.
  7. For the last 15 years my carry guns have all been 1911 45ACPs. I have a Colt LW 4.25" 1911 that I carry most of the time. If my back starts giving me fits I now have a S&W Shield 9mm that I carry. I'm a 45 guy but sometimes I have to give my back a rest!! I also have a STI Ranger II 19ll in 45ACP, all steel and heavy!! It's now my home defense gun along with the Colt LW. I have two Thompsons now but they are hard to hide out of sight!! If I knew the bad guys were coming they would be excellent for defensive use. You could lay down a lot of lead with a 50 round drum.
  8. Since the semi-autos had to comply with NFA/BATFE rules to be built, I'm guessing they are slightly different from the original full auto Thompsons when it comes to dimensions and.tolerances. The mags may not be held high enough, tolerances are different, I don't know. But the modification I did to the mags lips was 1/32" to 1/16", or less. You really have took hard to tell the lip was changed. All 18 mags that I have now work just fine in my two Thompsons. I don't see the need to send them in for $$$ reworking and waiting for months to get them back. Washington State passed some draconian gun laws in 2014. You now have to go thru a background check to get your gun back even if it was only sent in for repair!! Don't pass the background check for ANY reason, you don't get your gun back!!
  9. I bought three 30rd mags from Kahr, pricey and did not feed well. I bought 4 used WWII 30rd mags and they fed better but still had problems feeding my semi-auto Thompsons. I bought five 20 rd mags from What A Country and they fed fairly well but not 100 %. I bought some used 30rd mags from IMA and they didn't feed any better than the any of the other mags that I bought. Now, I have two Thompsons a semi-auto K/AO 1927A1 and a semi-auto K/AO TM1. The TM1 was used and came with seven 30rd mags. Two of them fed 100% no problems what so ever in both of my Thompsons. So at that point I knew my feed problems were due to mags not due to the guns. All the mags I bought were Seymour and Crosby, with 4 unmarked mags. From what I could get from the Mag Guide pinned to the Full Auto Forum most of these were WWII or slightly later issue. I'm no expert, I'm very new to Thompsons so this assumption could be wrong on my part. I converted all the mags for operation in my semi-auto Thompsons. These guns and mags will never be sold and will go to my Daughter and Son in Law at some point. My Son in Law is retired ARMY and loves the Thompsons. Looking at the back of the mags it was almost always the left round that misfed. So I reformed the left feed lip on each of the misfeeding mags and they now work 100% of the time no matter how many rounds are loaded. Here's a link to my post on this. I don't know if this is the correct way to solve the feeding problems but it works for me!! Your experience with a full auto Thompson may be totally different than me with my semi-autos. All the mags I bought were in good to very good condition and a few were in almost unused condition. You pays your money and takes your chances! http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18096
  10. I reloaded 45ACP for 12 years for my 1911 45s. The nickle cases would only last 3 or 4 reloadings before the cases split. The brass cases would go 6 to 9 reloads with no problems. Around the 8 or 9 mark was about as many times as I would reload them. Tossed them after that and either bought more commercial 45ACP or bought a load of new 45ACP cases. Now days if I'm shooting nickle cased ammo I don't bother to pick them up to reload, not worth my time! I never noticed any difference using them in my 1911s. I only buy brass cased ammo for my 2 Thompsons.
  11. Try Red Loctite, it's high temp and they use it to lock down head bolts and crank shaft bolts on auto engines. My TM1 has the fixed military site on it and the screws came loose. I put Red Loctite on them and let it set a couple of days. The last trip top the range I put 300 rds thru it and they are still tight. If you ever have to remove them you'll need to heat the screws with a torch to cook off the Loctite.
