  1. Can someone please shed some light on what the "pre-examination stage" is? My last two calls to the ATF have my form in that stage for just over a month.
  2. When I called, the lady I spoke to said that they were still processing forms from July (before 41F), and that they would starting processing paperwork from the subsequent months within the next four to six weeks.
  3. He and the customer he bought it back from may not have shot it, but it looks like it has been shot a lot judging by the wear on the top of the receiver.
  4. http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17236/ http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16525 Discussed here and here.
  5. This appears to be the receiver that was discussed in another thread. If I remember right, the consensus was that it was a fake and the seller was using deliberately ambiguous wording to mask the fact that there were no Colt parts in the bag of goodies, aside from maybe the selector switches.
  6. I've run close to 5000 rounds through mine since I got it three months ago. There was a whole month and a half period when I didn't (or wouldn't) shoot anything else other than the Colt.
  7. He might be more convincing if he pops for some better furniture on that Colt.
  8. I plan on shooting mine a lot but then again, mine has been refinished. Congratulations on your purchase.
  9. Is Rock Island aware of these inconsistencies between the advertised and the true condition of these guns? It would seem to be in their best interest for their reputation as an auction house to be aware that the guns they're saying will go for 60 to 95,000 dollars should go for 25 to 35,000. Should go without saying, but that is quite a discrepancy. It's the difference between buying that one Colt, or potentially three in good, original condition from another seller.
  10. Looking to thread a barrel and compensator from Thompsonbarrels locally, does anyone know what the thread pattern/pitch for a 21AC barrel? Thanks! Nelson
  11. Colt Thompsons have always seemed to be the most volatile of all transferable machine guns in terms of prices paid since the end price (as many of the members here know) is dependent on several factors rather than just being on the NFA registry. It is almost sacrilege to place a value on one since they are by far and away the most iconic and classiest American firearm in history. That being said, you will get what you pay for. There were three that I saw at the previous SAR show here in Phoenix and none were listed for less than $34,000. If you want one now, you will pay a liberal premium for that luxury ie. $45,000 to $55,000. Through the generosity of one the board members here, I ended up committing to a Colt Thompson in the mid 20's range just over a year ago when three years ago I was planning on saving my money for a Westie. From what I understand, Frank's guns is still brokering that Navy 21/28 that popped up on GunBroker a few months back which, from what I am told, is in rough condition and does not have matching upper and lower and has WWII parts. It might be worth reaching out to the original owner even though they wanted an arm and a leg for it at the time. There is no reason the original owner can't be negotiated down, especially if he wants to get rid of it. Might be worth looking into as a shooter and with the right bluing service, can be restored to it's beautiful original factory blue. Best of luck in your search.
  12. That ad seems rather disingenuous. Then again most of this seller's ads seem to be disingenuous, especially with Thompsons and BARs. Didn't Navy Thompsons make up the majority of the original Colts (more than 40%)?
