  1. Not to hijack the thread but Merry Ploughboy referred to this one that sold for $1340 which variation is it? I think its a first Worcester
  2. merry ploughboy, please correct the auction number of 77017149.. it should have 9 digits!!
  3. I will tell you , grasshopper. The stocks and buttplate numbers are called assembly numbers. The metal is fitted to the wood and separates for finishing and then they can match them up later Has nothing to do with the serial of the gun.Just has to do with each other.
  4. Well I know now my stock and hardware is correct...Its triple matching .My pistol grip may or may not be correct and the foregrip is not marked with an S and maybe its wood that was supposed to go on a Colt?
  5. I find no marks whatsoever on the foregrip. Buttstock has matching serial numbers which is correct and pistol grip has the "S"
  6. I was looking online and it said NRA insurance is $65 per 6500 of insurance which is 1%,. Regular homeowner rider can vary between 3 and 6% of the collection value I found this online If you have a gun valued at $3,000, you typically will pay $90 for the annual premium, she says. You'll also be required by your insurer to keep your collectable guns under lock and key. Thats 3 per cent which is a lot!! I have 1 million in coverage for $1800 with a $200 deductible and it covers guns that are shipped to me so I decline insurance, covers guns that I ship so I dont insure my shipments and if i compute my cost of coverage its just less than 1/5 of 1% or .0018 / Every situation can vary. Burglar alarms, safes, high or low crime areas all come into play. But they are the best deal!!!
  7. Problem solved, gun now runs like a "sewing machine" Are sewing machines a standard(lol)? Got a new savage sear and spring and the new spring had lots more tension than the old one I did try stretching the spring first but that didnt help. Thanks to all for all your help. Ran a timer on the gun and it shoots 10 to the second. 600 RPM with Tula Steel Case ammo Ran 100%
  8. Thanks, I know they are few and far between but $8,850 is high.
  9. Fellow Members, There Are A Number Of Photo Hosting Services That Are Free(Unless You Use Lots Of Storage) Here Are The Two Advantages. 1. You Can Post A Picture From An Auction And It Will Last Indefinitely 2. The Pictures That You Post From The Hosting Service Is Larger Than Many Of The Other Ways To Post Pictures Here When You Use A Link For Example To A Gunbroker Auction, It Expires When The Auction Does. But If You Saved The Auction Pictures To Your Desktop, Then Opened The Hosting Service Like Imageshack Or Photobucket, You Would Then Upload The Pictures. Now They Are In Your Album. You Select The Links, Choose Forum Code And Post Them Into The Thread You Are Writing. The Pictures Will Show Up Nice And Big. If You Never Delete The Pictures In Your Album, They Will Remain On This Forum. You Can Keep Your Albums Private And No One Will See Your Other Pictures. If You Have Never Done This , It Can Be Challenging. I Am Writing A Tutorial On This So If You Want A Nice Instructional,Send Me a Message and I will Send You a Cookbook Instructional After I Have Edited It.Too Much Detail For This Thread
  10. Hello All: I thought I posted Pictures of this Savage which we refer to as a "Commercial" It does have Colt Shiny Blued Fire Controls. Tom Davis has a few of These Pictured in His book with MPD(Memphis Police Dept? ) markings. I need to do a FOIA letter to get more history. It is early enough to be the First variation of the 4 types that Tom shows in his book. It is because it has the New York Address and Patent Numbers, not dates as in the next variation.
  11. my guess is repro found this under the lid in an area that I didnt see at first

  14. Good for you , Vettom. You dropped out at 16 thousand something and was a wise decision as it would be tainted on a resale. On the literature side, the money you spend on the few reference books out there will not only be enjoyable reading but will grow your 'knowledge base" of this small arena. I Know if I had all these books before buying, I would be thousands ahead!!! Ultimate Thompson Book (Hill) American Thunder ( Iannamico) Great Britain-The Tommy Gun STory( Davis) Gun that Made the twenties Roar If I left out any, I hope other Board Members will add to my list
  15. Its approaching 18k!!! I would have bought it in a heartbeat if it didnt cross 12-13!!
  16. Thanks a lot, Mine is a repro I conclude but an older repro but repro just the same
  17. Hello all: I would like a M6 Ingram and let a few go as I thought they went too high. I think in this world we undervalue things all the time as compared to what people are paying. Who would ever think a bringback AK47 would sell at 75K or MP5's that sell over and over for 35-40!!! I see maybe 3-4 M6s a year but I only look here and on gunbroker. I dont even know the other sites or vendors except Ruben. So if you know of one for sale ,please send me a link. I am not looking for collectibility so the model does not matter. I care most about reliability. I want a shooter so it can have some finish wear Thanks Haris
  18. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/781720216 I dont know if this is very clever work or did someone ruin a vintage L Drum?? Seller say made years ago. Have you members heard of this? Great way for M1a1 users to get a drum fix! $800 bucks. If it was 100 or $150 i would buy it
  19. Nothing wrong with the WH guns but like TD says, be ready for the time and expense that it may need. Mine didnt need anything and since it was owned for 20 years by the former owner, i doubt that he had anything done to it. Its hit or miss with a WH but if you can get it right and be prepared to spend time and money to bring it to GI specs. Just my 2 c As Petroleum1 put it: Something else to consider is resale and value of both guns. The GI gun is going to be your best investment whether its 1928 or M1.
  20. Vettom, TD is right on with all that he says Get those books!! $200 will get you a lot of knowledge and help you learn and at the same time , help you avoid costly mistakes I would have given anything to have asked your questions and gotten those books before I embarked 2 years ago and bought a West Hurley 1928 not knowing what it was. It truly was like owning a boat.Best day when I bought it and best day when I sold it!! .One of the best things that happened to me was to have sold it and broke even. Still tied up 22k in funds and got to shoot it once and they will not appreciate in value compared to WW2 guns. and they are not as good mechanically and the West Hurley Guns are not as consistent as WW2 guns and some need to be "tweaked" as compared to a AO or Savage built WW2 gun. I have made minor blunders since then and its been a rewarding learning experience. The 1928 was essentially a duplicate of the 1921 Colt Thompson .The 1921 Colt Thomson had some modifications done (called the US Nayy Model of 1928). Many of the Original 1921 Thompsons were modified in accordance with this change. It was mainly an internal change to slow down the rate of fire. That design was later made for WW2 from 1940 to October 1942. Those models took the drums and stick magazines. The Military wanted to simplify production and reduce costs The M1 and M1a1 came in mid 1942 and was produced till June 44 These models could not accept drums,,,,,,,,,,,the cocking handle was on the side.. The barrels had no fins, the rear sight was fixed instead of adjustable , no compensator, the buttstock was no longer detachable and the bolt was changed and simplified. I would recommend looking at the WW2 guns which were produced by Savage under contract to Auto Ordnance and also by Auto Ordnance once they got their own plant up and running Good luck in your search and welcome to the board here. Many of the board members(not me) are authorities and have been published. Get the Ultimate Thompson Book by Hill and American Thunder III by Iannamico and you will be amazed as to what a weath of knowledge lies within! Good luck in your search and welcome to the board here. Best, Haris
