1. Here is the second set of pictures: What are the markings on picture 4, 5, and 6 ??
2. Here is a FA Colt M16 with serial 906XXXX, can anyone tell me where it was sent, year of manufacture and what would be the "correct" period sling? No US Property Marking on the receiver. I'm finding conflicting information online and I trust you all more than I trust myself with Google search. From my research it could be an export sent to Malaysia or a CA Railroad Police rifle. Can anyone confirm or deny? Is the cosmoline original? Want your opinions, has it been fired outside of the initial Colt factory fire test?
3. R Stamp is different, Machine tool marks are off, not as "refined" as the real deal. If someone thinks they can make money, then you'll have fakers... even repos of repos.. its getting crazy out there. I suspect it was an existing grip and someone just went to the harbor freight and got a R stamp.
4. Looking for a 1928 Thompson Foregrip and Screw. Can anyone help?
5. I'm not being sacrilegious wanting some of this wood porn on my 1921 Thompson am I?
6. Thanks guys. Will contact him now. I'm a life long woodworker, got my start when I was 3 with my grandfather, There is just something about some awesome looking walnut that does it for me. I might have to buy some Bastogne Walnut and have him do his magic on it.
7. There is a sucker everywhere. They are just throwing out the bait and waiting for someone to bite.
8. That's the name I was thinking but couldn't remember, Tracie told me but I lost my sheet with notes. Any contact info on Deerslayer? Thanks ~Will G
9. But it will save all that solvent from getting onto your Carpet cleaning all those evil FULLY AUTO AR15s that shoot 50,000 rounds a minute with 5,000 round high capacity magazines. Who needs that when deer hunting? !!!! /s People were buying these off websites like Wish or any other Chinese eBay like site, drilling out the cores and then having a suppressor. Basically, at first it was "okay" because it was considered a 80% then the ATF changed their mind. Also you could order those things the thugs in Chicago were putting on their Glock slides that made them full auto. Also you could get a thread converter to convert a oil filter to 1/2-28 thread... Plenty of people used this for illegal purposes. some people actually filed a form 1 got approved then ordered the solvent traps and made it a suppressor legally... doesn't matter there are plenty of stories and videos on AR15.com of ATF agents banging on their doors asking questions about what they ordered what weapons they had etc... with no warrants..... be careful stay safe and always tell them you will answer their questions with your lawyer present.
10. Guys, Finally got a Colt Thompson, but need to switch the wood out to a repo set. Also looking for the 1928A1 style front flat grip.... I thought there was someone on here that made sets and was highly recommended, but after spending an hour searching the forums I must have passed over it. Any help would be appreciated, can't shoot it until I get the new wood and the ammo is on order! Thanks Will
11. I agree with this 100%!!! I will ad, There are heavy hitter dealers out that have had people bid up there auctions on Gunbroker to a point where it traps other bidders. Before they know it they just spent more than 30-40% more than the worth of the gun, if such a thing of course. The Pre May market used to be a third of transferable price but now its almost even. These dealers would suck up these premays for a decent price then off to the races on Gunbroker. This ideal has pretty much put out of the reach owning a premay for your Honest mom and pop dealers just trying to make it. Imho. Ymmv EXACTLY! Check this out. Legacy Collectables pulling this BS. Had a fellow forum member sell a Luger to them and 2 days later he saw it up on gunbroker where they switched out parts and claimed it was a Black Widow Luger, when in fact it was not. Epic forum post and a good read... He contacted the owner and was like what the hell? Legacy then changed the Gunbroker description but it was still shady. If they did this, what else have they done? LEGACY GUN BROKER BLACK WIDOW LUGER…GOOD FOR A LAUGH https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/legacy-gun-broker-black-widow-luger-good-for-a-laugh.52558/ Oh, BTW Legacy just released a Luger "Reference" Book that the owner wrote... great job, faking a gun for what 1k more and when it was discovered his reputation is destroyed when your deep into a particular collecting community... your reputation is everything and this guy sold it out for about 1k.... that tells you exactly what type of ppl are on Gunbroker.
12. Gunbroker is a joke, seriously. The larger sellers are crooks that open accounts with users that have NR rating (no rating) and shrill bid against other bidders to drive the price up. I think it was like last year that Colt Boa set Serial #6 was auctioned off... supposedly the earliest unfired set (hard to prove) bidding went like 4 hours over the stated ending time, sold for right under 100k... About 65k in, there were 2 bidders with good feedback bidding against each other then a NR started to bid and drove up the price to 100k. Kept bidding at the last minute to reset the clock. I'm into German WW2 weapons, always looking for that diamond in the rough. k98 Mausers are a minefield, you really got to know your stuff or you'll get bamboozled. So many sellers are taking mismatched rifles, grinding the serials and restamping. To someone like me with moderate knowledge its so obvious. These inexperienced buyers buy the BS upsell talk that the sellers spew, a rifle that was worth more before it was faked goes for insane numbers... all its doing is driving up the market and pricing out young collectors like me... Like last year someone Chromed a K98, looked like Rustoleum and made up some BS claiming it was Hitler's personal SS Parade rifle. Guy listed it for 22k, 3 weeks later he dropped it to $7,500 and some sucker bought it. A lot of sellers are unscrupulous and are destroying some collecting communities for personal financial gain, its almost like fraud. Unfortunetly, we are kinda stuck with Gunbroker, not a lot of other options out there. Not Gunbroker, but an Auction house that I've purchased some items from before. Hitler’s watch fetches 1.1million https://www.alexautographs.com/auction-lot/n-s-d-a-p-presentation-adolf-hitler-reversible-go_B434A5D9B8 Disccusion: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/hitlers-watch-fetches-1-1million.52037/ Totally fake, I mean what a sucker to purchase that crap for 1.1 million? Must be nice to be so rich you just dont care, money is trivial.
13. Good to see a fellow Virginian. I'm done in the Richmond area now, but used to live in Alexandria.
14. Even with "provenance" you have to be careful. Everyone has a story, whether its true or not is impossible to say. Reputation is everything and a lot of the time you just never know... lots of people may truly believe its a legit part then you always have the hucksters trying to rip people off and their are plenty of those in the 2nd Amendment community as we all well know.
15. Thanks for the detailed info. I'll try and go by there in the next month or so and then report back.
16. Looks about the same condition as the k98s they were selling which where trashed from years of poor storage in Ethiopia. SO SAD. ...but beggers can't be choosers these days... Those 2 RTI kits from the video looks like they could be turned into respectable shooters with a little love.
17. Has anyone been to Fort Lee since Aberdeen moved its stuff there? Live about an hour away but never have made it down there.
18. Getting into Thompsons, but come from mainly German WW2 weapons, which can be a mine field if you don't know your stuff. I learned some lessons the hard way, buying what I thought was a "collectable" firearm before a book and it cost me. A book is a very valuable resource to an extent, you can't rely on them completely but serve as a good starting point to get you familiar with the field. Discussion boards are going to be your best bet because you can discuss, debate and share information in real-time with other fellow collectors, most likely the authors will be board members too. Collectors love to expand their collecting "fields" by sharing knowledge and helping out new members. No question is a dumb question, but doing a little research beforehand goes a long way......
19. Thanks for the heads up. Looks like he has to finish listing the items, but I see some stuff I'm already interested in.
20. That's a guarantee. I bet that seller never signed up for a shrill bidding account so fast in his life. Didn't like the final price.
21. Lucky! I was a bidder, well I thought I was bidding but the auctioneer never checked to make sure online bidding was working before he started ripping through lots.... I called and they could have cared less. Typical of certain auction houses having no business auctioning off rare/valuable stuff, in terms of the cosigner they do a poor job on info, pictures etc... which deters a larger bidding pool and thus they get less money, but a big bonus if you are a bidder that can put there hands on it and know what your exactly bidding. It went over more than what I wanted to spend not being able to see it in person and not knowing what the inside looked like. Glad someone got it and came here to the experts, make sure to come back and post pics if you got any at the auction house while you were there or as soon as the transfer goes through.. would love to see it. I can post the images from the auction house if that would be okay, let me know.
22. The website is linked incorrectly. After looking at the code it appears that the underlying link has the "t" and "c" transposed and it is ".com" not ".net". www.theTCA.net
