  1. I don't believe that to be an "accidental dent" at all. That looks like an intentional bang by something such as a ball peen hammer. That was done to make the mags fit tighter in the well to reduce wobble, which can sometimes cause feeding issues. Normally, this magazine fit can be dealt with by the small tabs in the back of the mag well. I'd recommend against messing with these if you don't know what you're doing because they'll break off. This may be the reason for the ball peen lick to the mag well to keep the mags tight. Note that original MP.40 magazines can have varying tolerances as well. Some fit perfectly, some will be too tight, some too loose.
  2. Weve never had a WTS/FS forum here. Your posts have not been deleted. Read back through, and see what Ron posted. If you have been, or are a moderator on other sites, then you should be familiar with post hiding features that require moderation. You have been provided with instructions on how to potentially have your posts restored that you indicate took your expensive time. Please contact me through the PM system if you want to post items for sale. David I must have misunderstood your green light to extend to the other parts in addition to the box because we were openly discussing the posting of FS for the parts and mags and I thought I posted a request for permission to post those. I mistakenly proceeded under the now apparent misapprehension that I had acceptable credentials and could post the other mags and parts here for these guys to have first shot at. I did not know that I had to get clearance for every single item of this lot every single time to post FS here from this lot your members. I well understand and utilize site admin controls. However, I don't have admin controls here. So, I do not know where my posts went, how to retrieve them, etc. I'll post these items at our site and at Stg. Again, this is way too much confusion and drama for a simple FS post. It won't happen again. No good deed goes unpunished. Thanks.
  3. "Hambone, Again, I ask if you read my response. It does not seem so at this time, though you have made edits to your post. Please read my respnse. David" Bottom line: I don't post here often. I mod/admin another site with some crossover members. A friend and client has some desirable Thompson parts and I posted them here to find out what they are and reasonable value. I saw no WTS/FS forum here. There used to be one. I asked how I could post a FS post to extend the courtesy of first shot at this stuff to the people who helped me. I sold one part to a nice knowledgeable guy here at the price he offered. I did not try to run it up or blind bid, or anything like that. Another longtime member here vouched for me. Dalbert, you said that I could post a FS here. I spent time drafting descriptions, price, and posting pics. That was deleted. The original thread telling me I could post was deleted. I asked why. I get a bunch of BS and shut up with your questions or it "won't end well" for me. Really? I don't like being threatened, I don't handle it well. And yes, much of my time has been wasted (and it's expensive) simply trying to extend a courtesy to your board members.
  4. Thanks, I have a real job too, I own and run a business. A law firm. I'm just trying to understand what the rules are because that's what we all must play by at the end of the day. "Not end well"? Threats? The world is round my friend. For asking why my posts which I was told I could post were deleted? As I said, I've been admin-ing and modding forums for over 20 years. It's a fair question in an environment which is supposed to be fair. Apparently in this day and time we are drifting toward more autocracy. I would hope that this is a result of misunderstanding or innocent error. At this site people are censored and banned for asking legitimate questions concerning rules and post deletions? I hope that is what you mean by your admonition that I would be "wise to drop all these questions and asking for explanations and move on. If not it will not end well." Because if it isn't, I regrettably concur with your assessment. Hambone, Who was banned? Did you read my post? The forum rules link is posted on every forum page at the bottom. David I was told by you, or another mod, that I could post the FS ad for the Thompson mags or parts. I assumed that meant that I could post the FS ad for the Thompson mags or parts. I spend my time putting the ad together with pics and description, to give members here first shot, based upon what I was told, and it gets deleted, and then the thread condoning it gets deleted, then I get threats from this Thompson dude telling me if I continue to ask impertinent questions it "won't end well." It's been my experience at about this time this thread gets pruned, deleted, and my account gets frozen or suspended. I hope that's not the case. I always liked this site.

Because if it isn't, I regrettably concur with your assessment. The rules are posted on the forum home page. http://www.machinegunboards.com/ "While the boards are mainly intended for information exchange, there are instances when an individual may wish to post something for sale to other collectors on the individual forums. If you wish to post an item for sale, you must be at least listed as a “RKI Member.” You may also post items for sale if you are listed as a “Long Time RKI Member,” “Respected Member,” “Technical Expert,” “Industry Expert,” or if you are a Board Moderator. Only post items you actually have in your possession – do not post future expected items that have not been physically received yet. If you purchase something listed on the boards, you assume all risks, so understand the seller's terms of sale, return policies, conditions, type of payments and timeframe of delivery prior to your transaction. It is BEST if you have such details in writing, via letter, signed fax or e-mail. Again, All NFA Rules apply, and these boards are NOT primarily market boards." Right, been through that, I was expressly told I could post a FS ad. That post was deleted. My FS ad was deleted.
  6. Thanks, I have a real job too, I own and run a business. A law firm. I'm just trying to understand what the rules are because that's what we all must play by at the end of the day. I wouldnt think that at any site which is just and has integrity that people arent censored and banned for asking legitimate questions concerning rules and post deletions. Ive always deemed this to be an excellent and fair site with integrity, like ours (K98k Forum). Hopefully thats what you mean by your admonition, Ill be censored or banned. Youre a moderator then? My office gets silly threats all the time. Your best bet is that I dont take your things wont end well seriously
  7. Dalbert approved the FS posting that was deleted, along with the post granting that which was deleted. Thus, the history was erased. Perhaps you can show me where my post is so that I may retrieve the content? I don't see it so I don't see how it will "easily transfer" without me retyping it, reloading the pictures, etc. Thus, my time was wasted. Had I known it was like this I would have screenshot everything or not even bothered. The member here who helped me got a fair price on the British magazine box (basically his offer plus shipping) and I think the magazines were fairly priced, one a rare 18 shot magazine. I was granted the right to post FS posts here with parts and mags, then everything was deleted.
  8. So what did I miss Ron? What did I do wrong? I asked for permission, it was granted, and a longtime member here vouched for me publicly. Maybe you can explain it. That’s at least warranted.
  9. An admin/mod granted permission in my post asking if it was ok and that post was deleted. I’ve been a mod or admin of one or more forums / sites since about 1997 so I’m familiar with site / forum customs and rules. When you green light someone to post a FS ad and they spend their time and effort putting it together, so this forum which provided assistance can have first shot, why do you then delete everything with no warning? I guess that’s the current trend in Amerika on the internets. I don’t do it as a mod or admin, but that’s just me. I guess this will be deleted next then I’ll be banned. I’ll start screenshotting and saving. Sad.
  10. I was told it was ok to post a FS post re magazines and accessories here and that post was deleted and then the one I took time drafting with pics was deleted with no warning or explanation. Im not understanding why. Tks
  11. Thank you gentlemen. I sold it to a member here. I'm going to post parts here, which will be priced privately now that I have contacts here who know. I will post them with pics on this forum. My preference is to sell things directly to the collectors on the forums who help. Again, appreciate the help and the site Dalbert.
  12. No worries brother. I'm completely behind the times on valuing most things. Seems our hobbies are popular and most things have gone up precipitously as of late. I appreciate your help.
  13. So another question: what is the proper way to go about valuing Thomson parts and such here and selling them? The preference would be to sell to the membership here. All NFA rules apply, etc., this is not a sting op or grift. I have an ethical obligation to get reasonable retail prices for things. I get paid nothing, no commission, etc. For my friend and client I want to be treated as you would want to be treated if you came to me with a K98k or associated part or item and did not know better. The world is round. Thanks for your help.
  14. And a moderator can correct me if I am wrong, but things that are listed, should have a price, this is not an auction site. Good Luck with your future sale. Thank you for your help. I admin the K98k Forum and have been moderating and/or admin-ing at least one forum, sometimes two, since 1997. Thank you inertord for posting that, hence the reason I asked. If I cannot see a trader any longer then perhaps I do not have the credentials here to view it. I can control what you see and have access to at our forum. I'm well aware of profiteers "chumming", exploiting the goodwill of our members, and using our free site and information to pimp their auctions. Those people lose their trader privileges immediately and then site privileges if they keep it up. You want to pump our highly informed membership for free information to benefit yourself then propriety would require that our membership gets first shot. Hence the reason that I ask as I have no other way of knowing and no other way of asking. If you needed K98k type information and pricing you would do the same, you would be treated with the same courtesy as I have received here (thank you), and you would receive the same warning from me. Thanks for the good luck wishes, but it will go to someone here very reasonably for the assistance provided.
  15. Thank you Panda. For the assistance it will be offered here first. I’m not trying to chum the water and don’t know the rules here, I’m just being up front. I get nothing out of this. It helps an elderly collector friend of about 40 years who isn’t doing great. He had a number of Thompsons. I found this cleaning out an area of his house, shoved up in the back of a display case. Is there a trader here I’m not seeing? I remembered there being one.
  16. Thank you TennTaylor. In researching I found only one other sold that had a slot cut in it and lock latch attached to be a piggie bank (!) Yes it will be sold and there are 5 20 rd mags that I’ll get pics of (maker, condition) that will be sold too. I just need to get proper valuation as they are not mine and I have an obligation to the elderly collector to whom they belong. I did not see a link for the trader here.
  17. Hello, Can someone help with the reasonable value of this WW2 metal magazine box for 10 Thompson 20 rd. mags? I found this in a client's storage. Thank you in advance. Regards, HB
  18. Also, to me the best vintage SMG to have is a MP.40 IMHO. You can use the receiver tube with a complete extra parts kit and never wear out or break original numbered parts. Bulge the matching barrel or break off a bolt handle on the matching bolt and that sucks. Properly tuned and if you understand them (they are simple) you can make it run self-defense reliable, plus they are accurate and fun to shoot.
  19. I have a nice, 100% matching and original finish (about 90%) MP.40 ayf 43 that was a mild rewat, beautiful original bakelite furniture. It runs but is a safe queen. Its very easy to ID original finish on MP.40s. Its collector quality and its very tough to find those now. Id trade it plus $ for a same condition and quality Sten Mk.II or Beretta MAB.38A.
  20. What Colt21a said, without question. It's not that great of a refinish. Looks like a hot dunk in Brownells OxphoBlue blue tank that any decent gunsmith/refinisher in any town could do.
  21. Vet bringback, treasury registered legally as an imported war trophy. http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?113-Beretta-MAB-38-42-vet-history
  22. The problem is the quality of it. There are springs and there properly tempered springs.
  23. From my experience, nope. I've got a 100% untouched original matching vet bringback bnz 42 that has one dark brown, almost black grip, and one lighter, and the receiver cover is a little different than either. The mold markings in the grips are the same. Bakelite, i.e. phenolic resin, varied in color from different runs. They didn't try to match these up, they had big bins of left side and right side pistol grips and bins of the receiver covers. Sometimes these didn't match in color.
  24. Will FBP mag springs work properly in MP40 magazines? Are they of decent temper, quality, etc.? thanks! Hambone
