  6. Thought this would be interesting to share. The Captain Miller Thompson from Steven Spielbergs Saving Private Ryan film will be up for grabs at UKs PropStore auction at the price of what a full auto Tommy will run you. It appears to have been converted from a real Thompson to fire blanks. Lots of photos available on their website. https://bit.ly/2kw8uTK
  7. Hello everyone and thank you for letting me join the forum. I am a small shop owner and recently a customer brought in a West Hurley M1 semi auto carbine, that judging by the serial number was made in 1989. Problem is the gun has a cracked bolt face. Guy bought a SMG bolt to replace it but that obviously wont work. I contacted Mr. Block and he graciously advised me on how to go about replacing the bolt and also the other items that should be addressed to make it a reliable shooter. The issue is the customer wanted to repair the gun and then sell it. Frankly I think he might be money ahead just to sell it as is. Other then the bolt issue the gun is in decent shape, he has a boat load of mags with it too. I dunno how to best advise him. Was wondering what you all think? Thanks ahead for any response.

  10. ***POST APPROVED BY DAVID ALBERT*** Hey Guys, I'm selling one of my Thompson's to finance another machine gun. Anyway, Sandman1957 here on the boards helped me get into thompsons and advised me on buying this one. He shot it and can verify its immaculate condition. Its a beauty reblued and rebarreled by Reconbob late last year. This m1 thompson made by Urich has faux but proper US property and Bridgport Auto Ordnance roll marks. Its a really magnificent shooter and of much higher quality than any West Hurley receiver. I have a lot to come along with this which includes: -1 slling -10 30 rounds mags -5 20 round mags with a 5 cell pouch -1 brass cleaning rod -1 spare barrel -3 complete m1 bolts -1 complete m1a1 bolt -1 velvet lined mahogany presentation case (pictured) -1 30 round magazine stick stand (pictured) -1 converted 50 round L drum which works -1 spare butt stock -lower is an actual bridgeport $21,000 on form 4 in Florida. Willing to negotiate. Please call or text 410-693-3036 or The.Colt.Collector@gmail.com Edit- Ill go $19k for just the gun if someone doesnt want the extras Sorry about the pics as it is literally COVERED in gun oil.
  11. Happy snap of US Army somewhere in the ETO? with mix of Thompsons. Could be stateside training.
  12. So I shot my '28 and my m1 a ton the other weekend to total of 500 rds in one range session alternating guns. I gotta say the '28 was wayyyyy smoother to the point where I am mildly disappointed in owning my m1, kinda wanna sell it to buy a different MG. My '28 has a repro 1921a (no compensator) barrel so the barrels are the same with the exception of the fins, so i feel it's a pretty fair comparison. The m1 just felt choppier and I could feel it "bottoming out" against the back of the receiver, saving grace for the m1 the sights are way better but to me that's it for now. Anyone else who owns/shot both extensively feel the same away about the recoil impulse? Not talking about historical significance, rate of fire, blah blah blah
  13. Good Evening Gents, I have a drum that was converted at some point to work with m1 TSMGs. It works great and Sandman1957 was present when i bought it with my m1 and tested it. Now will anybody trade me an excellent condition repro taiwanese regular L drum? It would give a lucky m1 owner the ability to shoot drums. Thanks! Beau
  14. How many m1/m1a1 owners here prefer the m1a1 bolt over the moving firing pin in the m1 bolt?
  15. I have been trouble shooting my M1 West Hurley for a while. The seller reported the gun was re-finished (parkerized and GI parts) in the 1990s by a smith named Gerald Macdonald of Selma AL. Supposedly ran perfectly, with the “Hurley bugs” worked out. Upon receiving the weapon I found all parts were GI except the barrel, upper, lower frame, and magazine catch. The gun suffers from fail to fire (light or no primer strikes) on occasion. This is worse with certain magazines. Semi mode suffers from these failures more often. Admittedly some of this could be from shooter inexperience with open bolt guns, but it seems to happen enough where I suspect the bolt is getting an abnormal amount of friction some where. I have been slowly replacing parts in an effort to find the problem. The gun came with a GI M1A1 savage bolt. A M1 bolt did not solve the problem. A NOS recoil spring (notably about an inch longer than what was in the gun) did not help. I replaced all the lower parts. The bolt used to get stuck forward in semi mode, a new rocker seemed to have fixed that issue (of note is the old rocker had a lot more “slop” to it – the old one was GI. The new one is more solid so the old must have been worn). I finally picked up a GI mag catch and had it parkerized to match the gun. I replaced the catch (and learned that catch spring is a pain to remove) and found the mags now sit higher in the lower, and the mags will not seat when the gun is assembled. The WH mag catch appears to have some filing around the catch protrusion so I suspect this was hand filed to make the mags seat reliable. Below I have included some recorded dimensions in hopes that someone with more experience could confirm if my GI mag catch is within tolerance. I think the problem might be the mag catch hole location in the WH lower. Last year while trouble shooting at a local shoot, board member “mnshooter” allowed me to try using the M1 complete GI lower from one of his guns. That lower functioned flawlessly with my WH upper (and the mags seated reliably). If anyone has a stripped GI M1 lower I would be interested in purchasing it. Sending to PK is on the radar if I can’t get this going on my own, but I think I am close to the remedy. Here are some pics of related dimensions, taken with a dial caliper (comparing WH to GI catch): http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag143/kb0uxv/lower%20hole_zpsrolfhbl5.jpg http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag143/kb0uxv/LATCHES_zpssdzha1q0.jpg http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag143/kb0uxv/LATCHES3_zpsiawmekao.jpg http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag143/kb0uxv/LATCHES2_zpsnbj5yevl.jpg
  16. Hi! Bought my first Thompson M1 (not A1). Really nice piece but I found some markings on the barrel and receiver I cannot decipher. I tried getting a few pics but the markings are tiny and I need to dig out my macro-lens for them. Receiver: just next to the "S" for Savage manufacture in front of the mag well there is a small "logo" and what looks like the number 80. They are tiny and I cannot make out what they say. Additionally: on the barrel, just below the muzzle are some small stamps as well and I cannot for the life of me figure out what they are. Like I said I will try to get macro-shots during the weekend but IF someone happens to know right away what they are I would be super curious. No re-build or arsenal stamps present on the SMG otherwise. The stamps have not gone through the finish, so the gun was parked (or similar) after application. So hardly original finish on this one.... Thanks!
  17. MEN, I AM IN NEED OF AN ORIGINAL BUT NEW (UNUSED) ORIGINAL BARREL FOR A THOMPSON M1 AND ALSO THE SIGHT AND SIGHT PIN. I HAVE A DEWAT M1 WHICH FELL INTO THE CATEGORY THAT PERMITTED ME TO SEEK AND OBTAIN ATF APPROVAL TO RETURN IT TO FULL AUTO FIRE. I WANT TO BE SURE THAT THE BARREL IS SUITABLE IN BOTH THE SENSE OF AUTHENTICITY AND FULL AUTO FIRE. THIS GUN WILL BE USED AND FIRED EXTENSIVELY. CAN ANYONE ADVISE ON A RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY SOURCE FOR THESE BARRELS?? THANK YOU. LE LONGUE CARABINE 731-784-4118
  18. Hi all. Welcome to the new world of lost rights. See how some bad seeds can ruin it for a whole country! Well I am looking for a complete M1 semi automatic lower unit complete. Without paying an arm and leg, or my first born. Any ideas where I can get one? Thanks
  19. As my old post kind of fizzled out, and I am starved for things to think about, decided to start a new topic. Getting ready to drop some folding paper on an M1. I've read all I can find on the model, specifically as it relates to serial numbers. The gun in question is in the 508000 range. It's a "late production" judging by the protected rear sight assembly, but has pin levers and a crossbolt stock. I have yet to see any other M1's this high in the range. ATII shows one in the 244000 range. By a staggering coincidence, I also see an M1A1 in the 508000 range. I am sure most of you saw the pics in my other post. I've had speaks with Newtommygunner about the serial. Just wanted as much data as possible to occupy me for the next eight or so months. Also, as curious to me as the high serial number, the gun seems to have no proof marks at all. Not even the "GEG" I would expect from the civilian inspector Geo. E. Goll. Thoughts? What are your M1 serial numbers?
  20. Hello All, In some previous post i mentioned that all police thompsons were not "new off the assembly line" as some collector's maintain. Attached are pictures of a gun that was obtained by a suburban Chicago Police Department sometime in the 1960's. That's all the information the current administration knows. One of the older retired members of the agency remembers that they got the gun through a government assistance program. They don't have the paperwok for the gun any longer so I am assisting them with getting the proper paperwork so that they can consider selling the gun. I am fairly certain the gun will end up being registered since if it was part of a government assistance program it would have been registered at the time of transfer to the agency or before. The gun is is in excellent condition with the exception that someone varnished the wood at some point, although they did a nice job because they filled the sling swivel cut-outs with plugs that were professionally done. The gun is parkerized and is a little darker than the pictures make it look. The first picture without the flash is closer to the original color. The gun was obviously rebuilt at some point and put into government storage before sale to law enforcement in the 1960's. The interior parts still had traces of cosmoline on them and the grip frame had dried cosmoline on the metal. No one ever remembers taking the gun apart. The gun has all original early M1 parts but has a mismatched grip frame. The gun was probbaly refinished when it was rebuilt sometime after WWII Hope you enjoy the photos of a 1960's Government Assistance Law Enforcement Thompson. Without flash. mismatched number 123141? Ordnance stamps.
