james m
Just out of curiousity has anyone on the forun actually ever shot a Thompson with the shot loads that were puportedly loaded for "riot control" purposes. If you have done so how well did they perform?Jim
Gearz
Seen'em, never shot'em. I too wonder how effective they were.
Piep
I have used shot loads in my 1911 and I don't think it would be a riot to be on the receiving end of it. A friend has recreated the load that was used and you would find it very effective at taming someone down. I need to get some more and give it a try in the M1.My 2 cents. Uncle Dudley
These might be easier to find than the Peters riot shotshells.http://www.jouster.c...ot-for-Thompson Interesting read in this Jouster thread on "Duck Hunting" with the Thompson SMG. some for sale on GB: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=277112912http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/overspray/remington45wwiishot.jpg Edited March 16, 2012 by Uncle Dudley
WWII502
CCI makes .45 ACP rounds that use a #9 shot. They are in what I think is an aluminum case and they are not reloadable. When I worked at a cabelas I purchased a box of 10 and took them to the range with my 1911 for fun. They were effective against paper, but other then that not terrible powerful. I now carry my 1911 as a "snake" gun while hunting instead of my little .410 derringer. I haven't fired it at a snake yet so I dunno if it will be effective or not. Here is a link to buy some...http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/64455-5.htmlHope this helps...
emmagee1917
Back in the '80s we made these from cut down .308 Win cases . I believe they sold a forming die . Run her in , cut her off , load and put on the top card , crimp.Cheep to do , could pick your own shot load .Chris
WWII502
That would be much cheaper, can you still find the machine to modify cases? Does shortened .308 feed properly?
jim c 351
Considering that the rifling would have a spinning effect on the shot load, which would open the pattern quickly, I would imagime some of the pellets would never make it out of the Cutts Comp. Personally I'd never shoot them out of my comp guns , but I'd love to watch someone else shoot them out of thier gun.Jim C
Piep
The 308 and 30/06 are perfect. That's what we were using.CCI are OK but I still prefer our reloads. Bob
