Carbine1
I'm looking for some of the Russian re-pack or Evansville/Win in sardine cans. Does anyone know who still has some in stock? Thanks
giantpanda4
Hi, Not much help. but I saw some at a gun show last Sat. He had two 600 round tins - wanted $79.99 and would not budge. I already have 1, so I passed. The seller (I didn't get his name!) will be at the Birch Run Mi, Gun show in may 22-23. I heard this Russian repack is corrosive. How bad is it? PK.
I love it when sellers advertise ammo as “slightly†or “mildly†corrosive. That’s like being “slightly pregnantâ€. You either are or you are not. Potassium chlorate primers leave salt in your bore. If you live in a high humidity area you had better get it out right now, you have more time in a low humidity area. All of this ammo has been out of the distributor system for almost a year. You will have to find someone at a gun show or a dealer or private party to obtain any. Brickyard
First comment ... DIRTY http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif Thomas could take a bath in Wolf and look better. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif PK's right on the humidity deal. I've noticed that if it's hot and sticky you've only got a couple of days max. to get it out before you'll start to see some mild surface oxide. Cold dry days, you might get a couple more to work with. One idea he had which I've not done yet, is to run a stick of good stuff through at the end of the day and it ought to make the cleanup a bit easier. PK also gave me a tip toward Sweets 7.62 solvent. It's amonia based and will neutrilize the salts. It also leaves a wonderful smell in the dining room for the wife to enjoy for several hours. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I'd buy more if I could find it. The metal can are actually very good for holding all kinds of crap once you're done with them. My $.
full auto 45
Buy a box or can of military ball ammo and use it for decoration. I wouldn't want to use it in my gun today because it's a dirty bitch to clean. I have a can and just leave it sitting to use in displays.
john
Oh but it shoots soooooo nice!! Yep....dirty as all getout. 756 rounds to a can. I still have 3 cans left, but I'll shoot it up. Brass cased and copper jacketed lead bullets, and very consistent. Cleaning is not a big deal. Biggest fear I have is that of lead dust (oxide). I pulled a bullet to check the powder and the lead core inside was oxidized all white. Now when you shoot these, I'm guessing that alot of what is perceived as "smoke" from dirty powder is actually lead oxide.....don't shoot into the wind!!! And they really clog up the comp (unless you use anti-spatter spray). The 600 round cans with the handle on the top have zinc plated steel casings and Berdan primers, with steel jacketed copper washed bullets (lead core)....made later in the war (the ones I tried were made in 44, all the brass spam can stuff I have was made in 42). Check them with a magnet....you can split rocks with them!! Shoot OK, but if I'm gonna shoot dirty ammo with steel casings, I'll shoot Wolf. Saw two cans of the brass stuff last spring at Knob Creek and they were gone by the second day (after I decided to buy them!) Haven't seen anymore around.... If anyone comes upon a source, I'd appreciate a notice!! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif john

LIONHART
That crap is dirty as hell. For a few extra bucks purchase Sellier & Bellot.
