Couple issues when shooting

Recommended Posts

So I started noticing some issues today.

When I fire a round the trigger does not reset. I have to pull the trigger halfway, it then resets, and I can then pull the trigger back to fire a round.

I also noticed that the bolt hold open lever is not holding the bolt open. With no mag in, I push up on the lever with the bolt back, but it seems like it can't catch or can't handle holding the bolt back.

The gun:

West Hurley 1927a1

Sbr

EZ pull spring kit

Any ideas?

I'll add that im seeing a worn area on the bottom of the bolt where the pawl catches the bolt to hold tot open. And the pawl is worn where is catches the bolt.

Then the disconnector has some wear marks all of the top surface(which must contact the bolt).

I would assume these parts need to be replaced, but now I'm wondering about my bolt....

Any thoughts on this being caused by the ezpull spring kit?

I have about 100 rounds through it with the spring kit installed.

I have some photos of what is happening to the parts.

ANYONE have any thoughts?

I'm assuming the ezpull Spring kit caused this, but I'm hesitant to replace these parts, without knowing exactly why this happened.

Maybe a video will entice some help! ;)

This was the last outing, after this I noticed the damage.

That's what I was thinking. I bought the gun pretty much unfired, so I'm the one kind of working the kinks out of an old gun. Are the new parts from AO case hardened better?

The bolt is showing signs of wear also.....opinion on that?

I did smooth out the burs....same problem. The edges being peened over are not catching like they should.

Bolt should be drop in. I did some minor polishing and deburring on mine. Headspace shouldn't be a worry on these. They're really forgiving. As for the parts being better made or properly hardened.... It's kind of a crap shoot. Refer to older posts on Kahrs manufacturing and customer service problems... Someone else with a better standard should own the Thompson rights.

Good luck. Happy 4th.

I recently replaced the sear block on my AO 1927 with no problem. I was having a couple of double taps with mine and the rear of the sear block looked very similar to yours. I am wondering if your firing pin is catching on the rear of the sear block where it rides over the safety. That would account for your having to pull the trigger halfway to reset the trigger. It would drop a bit when you pulled the trigger halfway and slide forward to engage the correct sear. When you replace your sear block, you will have to check the protrusion of your firing pin where it contacts the sear block. Mine was .100" below the breech block bottom surface, but yours may be different. If it is too long, it will hit the rear of the sear block and hang up. Fit the firing pin protrusion with the hammer in place to ensure that the firing pin does not get pushed up when you are measuring it. A vernier works well to give you the correct measurement. As a bit of added info, I ordered the video on Thompson submachine guns from American Gunsmithing Institute for about $45.00 which also shows the AO disassembly and reassembly. Good luck.

I've already fully disassembled, cleaned up(deburred), reassembled the fire control group, which didn't help. I'd say these parts are shot. I just hate knowing I'm taking a chance on kahrs quality with new parts. This gun has no more than 500 rounds through it total. I think it was built around 1990, I have the date somewhere.
