StrangeRanger
Here’s another of those “What were they thinking?” specials that show up on GB from time to time: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1017279780 It’s an SVT-40 that someone had converted on a Form 2 to full-auto only. This has the same weight and slightly higher ballistics than an M-14 so it should be at least as unpleasant to shoot in full-auto but lacks the ability to switch it back to semi. The Soviets briefly experimented with converting the SVT to a select-fire version, the AVT-40. They abandoned the project because the ROF was stupid fast and it kept breaking things. Note that the safety which should be immediately behind the trigger is not present. It’s possible that this was a necessary part of the FA conversion since that was also where the fire selector was located on the AVT. Interesting but $31K? Interesting find, but a conversion of war gun to a version that was never adopted or deployed has value an a oddity but IMO not collectible. And, as you so correctly point out, FA only? No thanks. 1 of 4 on the registry means little if nobody who knows this hobby wants it....
StrangeRanger
If they had a full conversion to an ATV, which after all is quite possible to do, it might have more value in a "tube-gunnish" sort of way but as it is, not so much As for 1 in 4, some things are rare because they turned out to be a really bad idea. Then again, there are people who collect Edsels. Found this on Youtube. Don't know if it's an original or one of these 4. The ROF is IMNSHO useless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VT0S2OkcO4 Edited November 3, 2023 by StrangeRanger
