SR-25 and HAC7 Group Shot

Theme of the image was two guns that are both built to use Armalite AR-10 magazines... In reality neither one will take factory AR-10 mags, as they both have minor customizations... but neither set of customizations should keep the mags from being used in an original AR-10.

Shot this is an Alien Bee 800 that I found used for friend, and will be sending out this coming week. Figured I should give it a test beforehand, and also do a quick example of what a single umbrella, and a white surface to bounce a little light back in could do for you. This was shot at ISO 160, 24mm, f13 of f14, 1/160sec. I included my toes so you can see that I was pretty damn close to it, and not using a ladder etc (which ideally I should have been).

Did the usual corrections, but also tweaked the vertical alignment to adjust the perspective of the SR-25 slightly.. There is a dip to photoshop to add in the section of background that is missing, as well as hide the seam between two pieces of coosa. The rest involved reducing some highlights on the black metal, adding more texture to the background by using the clarity tool/blacks. There are a couple spots in the video where I was playing around showing what the clone tools can do, as well as having to undo what they did because I wasn't happy with results.

Very nice! Thanks for showing what can be done with a single light. I have the same light, but have not taken shots like this. Of course, I need some tutelage in Photoshop and Lightroom.

The photoshop / lightroom part really isn't that hard... Only real reason I had to dip to photoshop was to add the chance of background back into the shot. The nice thing about doing most of your edits in Lightroom, is that they are non-destructive, so you can always back up (even 3 days later) to a previous version or the original.

Andy,

Thanks for sharing all these hints. I took your advice and bought Lightroom and a cheap light set some time back but a residual virus on my machine prevented me from installing. A house move took most of my free time last winter but I recently cleaned the computer and have Lightroom installed. Now I just have to play with my setup and editing. I love the hints and YouTube. I'll keep adding to to forum as I get going to get some advice.

Ron,

Though his given name is Andrew, he goes by Andy. His nephew...my son, is Andrew. I guess, since we named Andrew after Andy, it's our way of telling them apart in conversation, though one is 40 years older than the other. Our Mom still calls Andy "Andrew" from time to time, but only when he's a bad kid...

Thanks David, corrected it. I totally understand it's like when I get the Ronald. Apologies Andy, hope you didn't have a flashback of getting scolded in the past

Ron

No apologies necessary... it also makes for a great way to weed out telemarketers and scammers.... I look forward to seeing your shots, and sharing the little that I know to make them even more successful.

Having a buddy like Andy to help with photos when selling a gun would be invaluable.

Just look at Ruben's and Vahan's sites, their quality photos add at least 5 to 10 percent to

the purchase price.

My 2 cents,

Darryl

In the case of Ruben (who runs a top notch shop), I helped him setup his studio at his office and gave his photographer, Michael, some suggestions ... from there Michael has run with it, and does a great job (and a nice guy to boot).

Another internet seller that does great gun porn is Jack the Dog on Auction Arms.

I've bought many a gun from Mark.
