GaryKeim
@OCM: I've already waited for the out-of-state inbound portion of my journey, so it shouldn't be that long.
OCM
Jim C nailed a GOOD one, be fun for you guys to compare & I have some questions on the weapon- Historically that is. Out of state journey. Class III to Class III I assume. 18 Winchesters rules , not even in IMHO, they rule. WAIT, forgot the Monitor. OCM
OCM
Gary- You got pictures of the receiver, both sides, also pictures of the gas cylinder ( regulator) side & front and barrel end . Top of the gun would be nice too, with SN and all, unless you don't feel comfortable showing the SN. Even if these are " sales" picture before you receive the gun.Lucky guy- OCM
GaryKeim
Sorry to be away for so long... just still waiting. Shouldn’t be too long from now. I’d rather present my own photos since the seller’s aren’t great. Also have a Thompson Colt Navy & Savage M1A1 coming... the wait is so painful, as you all know. Normal1959
One thing about the wait. Afetr you get it and look back, it doesn't seem like it was a long wait at all. Enjoy the journey and not the destination It's always nice to have something to look forward to.Eric

GaryKeim
This weapon, Winchester #66191, has no military marks or date on the barrel. It does have various digits stamped on the gas cylinder and receiver. Anyone know what that means? Ill be digging in tomorrow. Edit: dont forget Im a newbie here. GaryKeim
According to the seller this gun was once in the Winchester museum.
jim c 351
Gary,Did you buy this rifle on "gunbroker.com" From a doctor in the Akron?Canton Ohio area, for a little over 30 K.If you did , I have a story to tell.Jim C
GaryKeim
That’s correct, Jim. >>> The story ended up being that we were both interested in this gun.
johnsonlmg41
Looks like the barrel and bolt are replacements. Effectively every part on a Winchester gun has the "W" on it somewhere if you look hard enough. HTH
jim c 351
HTH,I examined the gun before Gary bought it.My first thought was that the barrel was a replacement. Then it occurred to me that the barrel was a slim Jim in the chamber area . Only Colt and Marlin made the slim Jim type barrel and it was not stamped "C" or "M".Later the fat chamber barrels became standard , so its not likely made post war. So,, who made the barrel??We may never know.As far as the bolt is concerned, I didn't disassemble the gun.Jim C
GaryKeim
The barrel is marked M on top where it attaches to the receiver... I initially thought this was 11. The bolt is marked W M.A. Edited July 23, 2018 by GaryKeim
jim c 351
Gary,I stand corrected.Jim C
johnsonlmg41
The bolt should have a N.S. stamp visible in the ejection port "nickel steel" and I think the op rod is also NS, but you have to take it apart to see it from what I recall. Not sure on the wood fore end, but those I believe are also W marked. Not sure if yours is a repro or? hard to tell from the pics, but I'd take a look at the inside when you take it apart. I have seen NS parts from time to time and a number of winchester barrels, but finding the correct date range and one that had original blued finish took me 5+ years, so I have a spare should it be needed (by the next guy since I never shoot it). A lot depends on how bad your obsession is? Mine's kind of bad, so I chase a lot of parts to put a gun back to original. On my gun, it was exceptional when I bought it, so I got lucky with this one. GaryKeim
As I reported above, the bolt is stamped W, and on a different angle, M.A., visible through the ejection port. I think I see NS on the underside of the operating handle, only visible when drawn back. Ill figure out how to disassemble it and check all the marks.
