marcus5
Well I got out to the range today and ran 40 rounds through my AO Thompson and it ran great no malfunctions of any sort. It ran smooth and I am very happy!!! I only had 1 mag but I will be getting more in, my brother has his own wielding set up and he will re-wield the mags that were altered and re-drill the mag catch hold for me..Does any both have any thoughts about re-wield the mag catch hole or any experiences of doing this.... Gio
Marcus5, At this time stock mags are easy to find and not that expensive. I would have to be desperate to take the time to weld and rework the mag catch hole. Good luck it you decide to try it. Frank
marcus5
Well I only messed up 4 mags and of course the Thompson came with 1 30 round. I think oh am sure if any one buys a AO Thompson from Kahr to be sure he fixes the mag catch and not use altered mags, this would fix all the problems before hand!! ..My Thompson has been a good buy I just don't understand why they would not fix the mag catch from the start instead of altering the mags..I will let you all know how the re-wield comes out.. mnshooter
It would have made far too much sense to originally make the mag catches work with unaltered mags.We all know the semi receiver is 1/10" lower, so that is where the problem begins with a stock catch. It is possible there might have been some issues with getting ATF approval for the first semi designrequiring incompatibility with full auto parts that prompted the mag mod rather than a catch modification? marcus5
The Thompson is such a hoot to shoot and being a WW2 buff it just add to the fun. I have a nice 5 round mag pouch and belt and original sling what else do you guys think i should purchase to go with it?
Gio
Their are a lot of things you can do to make your Kahr to look like a WW2 Thompson. First find a parts kit with a barrel. That kit would give you a short barrel, Note you would have to have form 1 to make short barrel rifle. The kit will also have a cutts com. and the kit lower can be made to work on your Kahr. buy a layman adj. rear sight and you would have a gun that looks like a WW2 Thompson. The only thing that gives it away is the shorter receiver. It's just money and time Ha,Ha. Main thing is to have fun. Frank

Piep
The main thing to get now is plenty of ammo.I'm not being funny, ammo is the second of the two main item's.The first being the Thompson itself.Get the ammo now while we can. Weasel
Marcus5, I have welded the mags back to GI. I slipped in a piece of copper down the pressed mount slot to back up the hole. I used a TIG welder to add metal. Ground flush and used a 3/8" end mill to make the hole perfect. If you have the welder go for it Weasel
marcus5
Thanks Weasel , I was hopping someone has had success at re-wield the mag catch hole. My brother is the wielder and I will tell him how you had success doing this!
