Change the sight over to adjustable. Not hard to due yourself. I installed mine on a 1928a1 get the rivets, make a bucking bar and use a punch on the inside to flair out and then level off good luck

A few years ago the spring in my WW2 L drum stopped working. I talked to the drum doc and he told me there were on springs to be had and to replace with a after market drum spring. I took apart the rotor and it some how had the keeper pop off the end of the spring at the winder center mount. I got it put back on and TIG'ed the cover back together and its running again. I had no idea what made them work until I took it apart and don't no if all the makers are the same style of spring attachment. Never hurts to take a look at the insides. I should have taken some pictures, dang!

An easy way to remove a barrel from a receiver stub, is to weld a large nut onto the stub and use an air wrench on it, they USUALLY spin right off. M1 barrels are general harder to remove because often they have been re-parkerized with the barrel intact. I sold a large stub on GB for $325. Most folks want to keep them. They are hard to come by these days.

I have one of D.R.'s bbl wrench that he made to remove the stub off the parts kits. It has a full wrap around piece and it clears the sight and slides under the forearm mount. I believe the LARGE nut to tighten around the bbl is 1 1/2" and use a impact gun to tighten. I have removed quite a few bbl's from the rec. stub and takes some force to remove. One stub took 5 hits with a 4lb. hammer with a 16" crescent wrench on the stub (striking the wrench handle).t If pictures are needed I can post Weasel

I have two demilled bolts that I will let go for those who have a dummy to use them in. Bottom has an under cut compared to the other picture Don't think it will show. Better than nothing in the ejection port. PM me.

You can do a SBR on a home built semi Thompson from a parts kit. Follow the guide lines so that it can't be made into a FA. Use a after market rec. or weld a cut up receiver. Just make sure the bolt blockers are put in first. Weaponsguild.com has a few designs that work. It can be a lot of work, but the reward is worth it. Isn't going to be cheap to build and you would not want to screw up hard to find parts. Good luck to those who are going to try and build one. Weasel

This is my violin case holding 28a1. real alligator. I use a small piece of leather between drum and receiver.

You don't have to over engineer a simple replacement of the sight. When I built my semi 1928a1 SBR , I used 8p box nails, ground the heads down, cut to a length that would work. I used a piece of 1/4" steel plate for a bucking bar and pinned the inside into the recess in the receiver. They are there to stay. I posted a picture of the job on Weaponsguild. Weasel

Picked this up this1935 Buick model 57 from a fellow 10 miles from my house. Clear title and 90% complete. Now the work starts. I got offered double what I paid for it by a Buick club member, but I will keep the car for now. It will go with the Thompson theme. A few pictures of the car where found. No rot-out and only one dent on right fender. The wood rot is a easy fix also. This will be a Restorod with chevy running gear and stock looks. Have fun.......... Weasel

The tommy with loaded drum is heavy so make sure the handle of the case is well mounted. I was out with the gun in the case and a passer by said what do you have a MG? I said no. Funny how people relate to the violin case and Thompson from the lod days.

Bruce, I used a standard violin case for my thompson 1928a1. I bought it off of ebay and had a shoe repair shop put in the straps to hold the removed parts.

Picked up a old violin case off ebay and fitted my SBR. Nice and heavy to carry around, but looks the part.

I have repaired the altered smg mags a few times. It is a easy job with a TIG welder, a strip of copper, and redoing the hole back to 3/8" If you plan to keep the mags and have someone to do the repair for zip it is worth the trouble. Weasel

I had a 27 made by west hurley in aluminum. I liked the weight. I was using reloads from a friend and had two OOB rounds. Both cases buldged and ripped the side of the case. Had to use plyers to pull the cases out of the ejection port. It never hurt the upper or lower receiver or feed ramp. I can't say if the aluminum that is used is soft or hard. I put a lot of rounds down range and never had a problem with the receiver. Now saying that I did do a lot of smith work to get it to run well. I shoot a 28a1 SBR now. Hope this helps you with your purchase.

Hey Joe, how are you doing. I have been going through some health problems over the last year plus. Nice looking M1 tommy. I still have my 28a1 semi SBR but haven't shot it much. Working on the m29c weasel engine and trans swap between good and bad days. Have fun Weasel

Thanks to both of you for the replys. I will clean my pistol. I am sure that it is corrosive like rifle ammo from that time line. I thought about running these through my Thompson, but I may just pack them away for future use. The price was right !

A buddy came by today and gave me about 200 rounds of 45 acp from ww2. They are the steel type cases and are not reloads. The head is marked: E C 42 boxer primed. I understand the primer was smaller than a large pistol primer of today. I fired 6 round with the 45 pistol and had no problems. Which company produced these during the war? Are they hotter than a newer hardball round? Thanks for any info on these. Weasel
