Sandman1957
Gents, Looking for some good information regarding the 1968 Amnesty Registration. I will be picking up a SMG soon, and want to know more about that process. I will scan in a form today to post, but it will be a pdf file. It was approved, but there is not tax stamp attached to the form. Was there no Tax Stamp required during this 30 day amnesty registration? Thanks in advance,Sandman1957
RoscoeTurner
I still have amnesty papers for a MG42 I once owned, no tax stamp. The amnesty process was much simpler than what we are used to today for transfers.
bmarvin
An amnesty form (#4467) did not have a tax stamp. It had your name, address, social security numberwhere you worked, when you acquired the firearm and a description of the firearm. The form was then signed by the IRS and dated and returned to the registrant. emmagee1917
If you look at a tax stamp you'll see it is like a postage stamp . It is marked $200 . It is what you're buying with the $200 you send in. With the amnesty , you did not pay for , therefore you did not get , a stamp.Chris
Sandman1957
Thanks everyone, The seller got concerned that maybe he should have recieved something else, and it sounds like everything is in order. This particular one is noteworthy in that it was submitted on 30 November 1968... the very LAST day of the registration period, and approved on 29 Jan 1969. Sandman1957
At least I am getting this from a friend and can meet with him anytime our calendars sync during the upcoming time out box. Hope to get the paperwork done in the next couple of weeks. My issue is just getting all the things done. The Sheriff does and on the spot signature, its just hard catching him in. SRSch
With regards to the 1968 Amnesty: I have two guns that were supposedly in that venue from a WWII Veteran. These guns are a Sten Mk-II and an MP-40. They were then sold to Irv Kahn from that Vet's estate, then bought by me 35 years ago. Is there any way in which I can obtain info on the first owner, the Vet that took these trophies from the Normandy Battlefied then registered his trophies in 1968? Irv told me that they were taken by that Vet who fought in D-Day and beyond. Too bad for me that I did not get specific details from Irv 35 years ago, Surely the Gov must have the records of the transfers on my guns. Raining Brass
I imagine a FOIA search might turn up something for you.
The Lone Ranger
Previous owner names and other info are restricted from release. (26 USC 6103) A FOIA will get you a redacted copy with the owner info blacked out.

(26 USC 6103) A FOIA will get you a redacted copy with the owner info blacked out. Well, i priinted out a FOIA request for my Sten Mk-II, with my registration and a check for $50, and if the previous owner names and adresses are blacked out, what kiind of information might I expect? Is it worth it? Steve.
darrylta
You really did not need to send any money, I use the archived FOIA form that is in our pinned section that states I'mwilling to pay 25$ towards the cost of the FOIA search. To date, I've never been asked for any money.-Darryl
timkel
I sent in 3 FOIA requests over a year ago. I haven't heard anything since. They must have been on Lois Lerner's hard drive.
The Lone Ranger
1. What Darryl said - send no money - not needed. What you can actually glean from it is the method of initial registration and times it was registered and transferred through the years. Kind of depends on what you want as to whether it is a gain or waste of time. timkel - did you get any acknowledgement of receipt from the agency? If not, try resending. If so with no follow through, maybe you have a sympathetic politician (or staff member as is more likely the case) who would be willing to ask about it?
